Boku no Hero Academia

Ok there’s a big problem: I’ve run out of dumb shounens to talk about that I like. The only choices left for me are to talk about dumb shounens that I don’t like (dumb dumb shounens) or down bad causing agents. For this week and hopefully only for this week (pray i remember a dumb shounen that i enjoyed before next Friday), I will talk about one of the down bad causing agents, which also happens to be one of, if not my favorite mangas of all time. Ok I just woke up and have realized I’m not ready for this disclosure of information so I will continue to gatekeep this information and go talk about extremely mediocre overhyped manga series: Boku no Hero Academia or My Hero Academia.

*Please keep in mind that this is entirely my own opinion, you don’t have to agree with me, just please attempt to understand my POV before bashing me in the comments. No shame in liking My Hero, tbh I at one point also liked it, just not anymore.

Oh and also ***There will be spoilers***, oops actually not oops thank me for saving you the time and energy that you could’ve possibly had the displeasure of wasting on this series.

Action, Superpower, School, Shounen (aimed towards teenage boys)

bullying is bad! deku getting his powers!!

Story:

As unbiased of a description that I can give (going to be biased nevertheless): So in the world that My Hero takes place in, people are born with quirks (superpowers), some are cool ie: shoot fire, super strength, run fast, others are dumb: you are half lizard. Not everyone’s born with a quirk though, the main character Deku unfortunately was born without one, which is really sad because he idolizes every single hero in the hero industry (hard simping happening, he has multiple journals documenting every hero and their quirk). One day he’s out being sad when in a turn of events he meets the Number 1 hero “All Might”, stuff happens and All Might tells Deku that his quirk can be passed down from one individual to another, and that he’s deciding to give him his quirk. Now Deku has a quirk that makes him strong and enters a school where he learns how to use the quirk. Blah blah blah ok onto MY description of the story

biased description (also TLDR): Soy boy simp with no superpowers gets powers, goes to school, and fights bad guys all while being carried by plot armor.

Characters:

There’s Deku, main character, white knight, born without a quirk and loves superheroes. There’s Bakugo who’s high-key just a one-dimensional permanently grouchy teenage boy whose superpower is to create explosions from his sweat glands or something. In a turn of events he ends up becoming rivals with Deku, and he follows typical bully syndrome where he bullies deku because he’s jealous of him or something. There are a buncha other people that are all mediocre and forgettable, with the exception being certain villains of the story. Those I will not spoil as if there’s anything to enjoy about this manga, it’s the development of the villains.

Art:

Art is unfortunately really good, fights are detailed and clear. Waste of potential smh, but yeah just refer to the pictures i put throughout this post and yeah.

<- Deku breaking a brainwashing because of his mysterious powers oooooooooo~

Closing Thoughts:

I don’t like My Hero Academia, but I feel like I might’ve been too angry while talking about the series in that it didn’t allow me to give a good recounting of the series. Looking at it in a positive light, it’s enjoyable in that all the characters grow in power and experience, and I also really enjoyed the manga whenever the villains are the focus as their backstories are all really cool, and portray them as humans who aren’t in the best circumstances. Overall pretty good manga, I’d give it a solid 7/10, enjoyable brain-off read, just a tad bit too generic for me…

just kidding deku is literally the most average and underwhelming main character I have had the displeasure of reading about. Turn that 7/10 into a hard 3/10 whenever he’s the focus. See the attached video to understand why, it’s a bit large because I’m bad with computers (computer science major btw) but hey stop complaining its a Friday. For context, Asta is the main character of another manga with superpowers and is the only individual in the world to be magicless (kinda like mashle from mashle magic and muscles!) but he’s turbo ripped and has the sigma grindset which makes him extremely powerful and cool!
