Haikyuu!!

OOK OOK OOK OOK OOK OOK OOK sorry caveman instincts kicked in while reading the latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen. Oh my GOSH was that worth the wait I don’t think I got pumped up to this level in a long time (maybe Blue Lock?) WOOOOOO LETS GO YUTA AGAGAGAGAGAGA ok to the post

The manga I’ll be talking about this week is Haikyu!! Yes, it’s spelled with two u’s and two exclamation points don’t let the poster gaslight you like it did to me. Hopefully, you’ve heard of this before, as it’s kinda one of those super-goated series that have entered the American mainstream because they’re just built different. It’s about volleyball, as the name suggests (literally means volleyball!!) but keep in mind, while the main focus of the show may appear at first to be about volleyball, it’s actually about the developing bonds formed in the Karasuno Boy’s Volleyball Team as they get better and better at the sport. oh and also it has a buncha really cool boys to fangirl over if you’re that type of person (myself maybe included (maybe)).

Story

Ok so there’s Hinata who goes to Middle School A, who’s this 162 cm tall individual, who plays volleyball but is still pretty new to the sport as a result of his high school not having a dedicated volleyball team, oh and he’s also a freak of nature in that his reflexes, athletic ability (his vert is 333cm), and stamina are all crazy insane. Then there’s Kageyama who goes to Middle School B, who’s cracked out of his mind, but as a result of his drive to win, will at times demand too much from his hitters, landing him the nickname, the “King of the Court”. The two, who develop a rivalry of sorts after competing in a middle school volleyball tournament, end up playing on the same volleyball team in High School. Haikyuu!! is about the bond between these two, alongside many others within the Karasuna High School Volleyball Team and later down the line other members from other high schools, and how it grows and becomes a growing opportunity for everyone involved.

Characters

Everyone in the manga is likable, all the bonds in the manga are so wholesome and adorable. I kid you not, while reading the manga you end up loving every single character you encounter. The only problem that I can come up with the characters in the manga are that some characters get more screen time than others, so I get less time to stare at my spirit animal (Bokuto).

<–this is early into the manga

<– this is like, last couple of chapters

Art

Art is top tier-goatedness. Detailed, crisp, intense at times, other times adorable and stupid. Idk sometimes like, the author will draw faces, primarily Hinata’s, in a disgustingly powerful manner, like whenever I see these I get emotional, and I can’t explain why. Refer to the pictures attached or something. OH AND SIDE NOTE, THE ART GETS BETTER AND BETTER AS THE MANGA PROGRESSES.
