Episode 6: Tony Hughes

Hey guys, back at it with another post for you about the Jeffrey Dahmer series Monster. This episode will cover one of the most known victims, Tony Hughes, whom was a black gay male who was deaf and taken advantage by Dahmer. This episode covered some police ground towards

the end of the episode and we will also talk about the effect of that. The episode opens up to Hughes’s mom giving birth to him and then the doctor diagnosing him as deaf. His mom Shirley Hughes, was not a fan of this and this was only the starting of her suffering. It then pictures Hughes in the infamous night club Club 119. I can see this was a very commonplace for gays to gather around at this time. But this takes Hughes talking to a male and the male finding out he’s deaf and starts to laugh at Hughes. This make Hughes a little self conscious and it ends the conversation. Hughes point out he wanted someone to flirt with and take out on dates when he was talking to his friends. He longed for a partner and to have his dreams come true. Well this is what he thought when he first met Dahmer.

Tony is become aware of his surroundings by the untimely loss of his friend Rico. He realizes that life is too short and that he wants to do things his own way. He believes he still have dreams to accomplish before he reaches the end of the road. He decided to move to Madison, New York but his mom didn’t like this. His mom  questioned this move, especially in consideration of his hearing loss. Tony talked her out of it and  convince her that he can achieve his goals on his own and that his hearing disability won’t stop him from succeeding. This was a very sad moment to reflect on for the mom because she knew something bad could happen to him because of his hearing loss and she tried to protect him as much as she could. But when he encountered Dahmer, there was no turning back.

Hughes meet Dahmer at a gay bar and they instantly lock eyes. Dahmer buys him a drink and they start to talk to each other and started to dance. This is where Dahmer starts to get the urge of his unsettling mind but he pushes them away and keep dancing with Hughes. Hughes  turns down his offer of another drink at first, but eventually agrees when Dahmer encourages him. Dahmer was trying  to add tablets to his drink but Hughes came back and interrupted him.  Following their dance, Hughes tells Dahmer that he likes him (which was a very bad mistake) and Dahmer replies with that he’s drunk and laughs it off. Dahmer initially invites Hughes back to his place but Hughes insisted that he had to earn him.  This is where you see Dahmer and Hughes spending a lot of time together which developed feelings between the two.

Tony is convinced to come to Jeff’s place. When they arrive, Jeff considers adding drugs to Tony’s drink but ultimately decides against it. That Jeff genuinely felt a connection to Tony and was trying to build a relationship with him is further supported by this. Jeff was trying to convey Tony, very quietly, that anyone who gets too near to him disappears forever, as is evident from the game they play. Tony takes Jeff’s meaning incorrectly and applies his own interpretation to it. Telling Jeff they could alter the game’s rules, he seems to be suggesting that he wouldn’t simply go and depart. After spending much of their time together, Jeff and Tony decide to stay up late. Because he is running late, Tony hastily leaves in the morning. When Tony tells Jeff that he’ll be back next week and that he should trust him, Jeff gets scared and asks when he’ll return. After a brief thought, Jeff decides against killing Tony. At the police station, we watch Tony’s mother declare him missing and file a missing person’s complaint. She continues, informing the officer that Tony was not only absent from work the day before, but also was not expected to be with her. The police are also told by her that Tony never ever attempted to contact her or his sisters.

Flyers asking people to look for Tony and pray for him are distributed by Tony’s mother, her relatives, and a few other people. Jeff adds cash to the contribution box there. Jeff, who may have been another victim of his, phones the family of Errol Lyndsey after drinking a lot. He hangs up after

telling his sister that Tony had entered the vortex and she shouldn’t search for him. Flashbacks support this by confirming that Jeff killed Tony with an axe. Jeff grabs a chunk of meat—likely Tony’s organ—from the refrigerator shortly after the phone call ends. He fried the food, adds pepper to season it, and serves it to himself. This was his sick way of becoming one with Hughes and this ends the episode.

Episode 5: Grandma’s House

Hey guys, this episode will focus on Dahmer’s killings and attempted killing of one of his victims and how the police reacted. Keep in mind this was all while at his Grandmother’s house. To start the episode off, it opens to 1991 when Dahmer is incarcerated and talking to detectives. In real life Dahmer was incarcerated at Columbia Correctional Facility and only served two

years there before he was rightfully killed. And I say rightfully because he wasn’t prosecuted with the death penalty but he should because personally
he was worse than Ted Bundy, who was a women serial killer. But back to the episode, Dahmer was talking about how at a new job of his in a chocolate factory he seen in the local newspaper about a boy, named Daniel Cizek, dying. He said that when he saw that, this made him go to the cementary Cizek was buried in and lay with him. Well attempt to lay with him, he claimed he wasn’t able to because the dirt was too hard and it would’ve taken him forever to dig it up. But still, that is kinda sick when you take a step back and look at the things he wanted to do, I mean laying with a dead man you never met? It is very psychotic, but we are talking about Dahmer.

One detective then asked Dahmer about Steven Hicks and Dahmer didn’t recall and this made the detective upset exclaiming he should at least know the innocent people he killed. I found that interesting because it shows that Dahmer didn’t really think when he killed, he just seen someone trying to leave him and irrationally acted on it. The detective also pointed out that Dahmer targeted certain people, more people from the poverty line like African Americans and latinos because they were more accessible and the police wouldn’t think twice about it. This I can believe because Dahmer didn’t really start his killings until he moved to into his apartment which was in a low income, high crime, high rates of black and latino families. In fact, Konerak was Latino and many of his other victims were black, including Ron Flowers which is the highlight of this episode.

Ron Flowers in real life

Ron was picked up by Dahmer on the side of the road after falling victim of having a dead car battery. Dahmer pulled him in by offering a car jump but they had to go to his Grandma’s house first. Once they got there, Dahmer started drinking beer and tried to convince Ron to go to his Grandmother’s basement. Ron declined, but this didn’t stop Dahmer, he gave Ron drugged coffee instead. All why this is happening, Dahmer’s grandma was worried about what was happening and kept asking Dahmer who was downstairs and what they were doing. While Ron was drugged passed out in the chair, Dahmer’s Grandma caught it and asked if Ron was okay and that she wasn’t gonna leave until Ron was okay or in the hospital. This resulted in the morning, Dahmer putting Ron on the bus, still drugged. Next thing you know, Ron was waking up in the hospital as a overdose case but he tells the nurse and then a detective he was drugged. This is where things get important.

At the police station, Ron told this to Detective Rauss. Additionally, he informed the investigator that he had spoken to others in the bathhouses about a man named Jeff who had been drugging people. Despite Ron providing an address, the cop lacked interest. As a result, Dt. Rauss went to see Jeffrey and granny to inquire about what had transpired. Nothing came of it, as was to be expected, and Ron is shocked that the detective is ready to believe “a white man with a criminal record over the word of a Black man” without one. This is another example of the racial politics at play in Dahmer’s atrocities getting unreported by the police.

Ending the episode off, it shows the ruling of Dahmer sexual assault against Konerak’s brother. He was sentenced to prison but was released only being there for a year. This also show favoritism towards the white population and inequality because if that was a black male standing behind bars, he would be sentenced to life immediately.

Episode 4: Life Transitions of Dahmer

Hey guys, back again with another overview of Monster. This episode also didn’t cover police material but the transitions of Dahmer life from graduating high school, attending Ohio state, joining and getting kicked out of the army, then moving in with his grandma. At the end of this episode it starts the beginning of how Dahmer got into his Wisconsin apartment. To start the episode off, it begins with Dahmer in a room with detectives explaining why it took him so long to kill again after his first victim. It goes back into high school with him trying to sneak into the National Honor Society school picture. To me this looked like he wanted to sit in somewhere and this was a chance. Well it didn’t go so well, the school committee seen it and scribbled Dahmer’s face out, increasing his feeling of unwanted. While examining his face crossed out in the yearbook, his dad and his new girlfriend Shari shows up to talk to Dahmer and check in on him. Little did his dad know that Dahmer’s mom left him to take care of himself and Dahmer developed alcohol abuse from this. His dad and him had a sit down about Dahmer’s future and it ended with Dahmer deciding to go to Ohio State to try to change his life. The crazy thing is Dahmer knew that something was wrong with him, but his dad ignored it thinking Dahmer was just being sarcastic.

In college, Dahmer didn’t do well, he failed all of his classes and reportedly had a 0.46 GPA. When his dad found this out, he was very disappointed with Dahmer, enlisting him in the army as punishment. Because he was kicked out of college, he had no choice but to go. When in the army, it didn’t get no better for his life. He was intrigued by the medical terms they talked about because he was a nurse for soldiers there. He learned the uses of medications such as Halcion, and used this to knock out some of the soldiers there. He would examine the body that seemed dead and would start to kiss and hover on them. But when his dad found out, all hell broke loose. After finding out he was discharged, his dad forced him to live with his grandma as his last resort. He addressed Dahmer’s drinking issue and stated it needed to stop and that Dahmer needed to get himself together. Dahmer everything but stop drinking, and being a serial killer of course.

When Jeffrey went job hunting, he discovered a position in a Polish butcher shop making sausages and handling meats. This was perfect for him, considering he loved cutting things and examining “meat”. One time, Dahmer’s grandma found a mannequin in his room and thought it was weird and threw it out. When Dahmer found out, he started to yell and be aggressive about the mannequin and this strained his relationship with his grandma.  That suggests he would require something—or someone—to take its place. He made an attempt to reassure her that it wasn’t a gay thing and that he’d never intentionally “bring shame on the family” by acting in such a way. Like him not being a serial killer, was enough shame haha. Long story short, he was caught masturbating public and got fired from his job at the butcher shop, leaving him to look for another job. Nevertheless, he did manage to secure a position at a Milwaukee blood plasma center. The ideal position for a man who is becoming more and more interested in cannibalism. One evening, Jeffrey took some blood baggies home with him. This is based on a true incident that Dr. Park Dietz revealed to the judge during his call as a witness. According to Dr. Dietz’s account, Dahmer admitted to stealing a bag of blood while he was employed at the plasma center, tasting it, and then spitting it out because he didn’t like the flavor. Here, Jeffrey is seen letting the blood pour over his chest as he stands over his sink and experiments with it.Father Son Holy Gore - Monster - The Jeffrey Dahmer Story - Jeffrey Drinks Blood

Steven Tuomi

Fast foward to Milwaukee, Dahmer would pick his victims up at Club 19, where he picked his almost last victim up and would take them to a men’s bathhouse. Bathhouses were places for gay men to go and “hook up”. But Dahmer got caught drugging one of his conquest and was banned from all bathhouses in the area, resulting to him bring his next victim, Steven Tuomi. They partied together after he spiked Steven’s drink. He eventually fell asleep after being a little too mixed up after some time.
When Dahmer woke up, he realized he had killed Tuomi. In reality, Dahmer insists that he never intended to murder Tuomi, simply to drug him and leave him motionless for the duration of the night, but he left leaving his arms battered and Tuomi’s chest caved in. Dahmer panicked in a sense that he didn’t know how the murder happened, and was trying to come up with a plan to dispose of the body. Dahmer took Tuomi’s body home in a suitcase and started dismembering the body. In order to create his own memories for the box, he retained Tuomi’s head, wrapped it in plastic, and stored it in the ancient box that belonged to his father. Two weeks later, Dahmer attempted to preserve the head by boiling it in Soilex and bleach. He did for a while, using it for masturbation, but he eventually broke it to pieces since the bleach had made it too brittle, ending this episode.

Episode 3: Dahmer’s First Killing

Hey guys, this post will be different than the general idea of what the post is made for because this episode didn’t really cover police action. In fact, it covered Dahmer’s early years in high school and how his obsession expressed to killing his first victim, Steven Hicks. The episode starts off with highlighting how his Mother treated her pregnancy. Fun fact, Dahmer’s mom had postpartum psychosis. Postpartum psychosis is an mental illness that is basically an health emergency for pregnant women. It can cause the mother to have hallucinations which can harm her or the child. And in this episode it starts off with his mom sitting outside in the freezing cold while pregnant with Dahmer.

As you can already see, Dahmer was born into a pretty rough family. His mom being a addict while having a mental illness and his dad not being present as he should contributed to his weird personality. So weird that in the episode, Dahmer and his dad is fishing and when Dahmer catches a fish, he closely fetish the insides of a fish. This might be overlooked by some parents, but if that was me I would be concerned for my child just a little bit because it would be seen as an obsession to me. But this obsession was overlooked by his dad because his dad noticed all the things that was going on at home, he was happy to see Dahmer fascinated with at least something.

In high school, Dahmer wasn’t so popular but was talked to because people were making fun of him. Making fun of him like asking him to “do a Dahmer” (Dahmer would act like he had a disability making noises and doing abnormal hand gestures) and he would do it thinking they are laughing with him. They was definitely laughing at him, so when he asked to hang out and be turned down, it would make him mad. This added to the aggression he already had in him.

Dahmer mom ends up leaving him, taking his brother with her, expressing she didn’t want to deal with his father. This was a result to Dahmer’s dad moving on after the divorce and his mom took this as a chance to leave.   This confused Dahmer and made him more empty than he already was not having parents around. Fast forward to a random day, he sees Steven Hicks on the side of a road and offers him a ride to his home. Hicks wanted to go to a Pegasus concert but accepted Dahmer’s invitation but it starts to get weird… Hours pass and Hicks and Dahmer was handling weights but Hicks started to ask when they were leaving. Dahmer tries to put it off by offering Hicks more beer and more conversation. Hicks insists that he wants to leave but Dahmer just tries to talk him out of it and then Dahmer tries to kiss him. This is when it gets weird. Hicks resists Dahmer and starts to yell at him calling him homophobic slurs and tries to leave, but when he turns around, Dahmer hits him in the head with a weight.

*Sensitive Details*

Once knocked out while blood was running from his head, Dahmer crawled onto him saying things like “Why’d you do that” while caressing his hair. He also started to kiss and feel on Hicks getting arousal from it then he realized he was dead and started to get angry at Hicks. In my opinion this is psychopath behavior and it is really scary that he was a teenager doing this. Dahmer hides Hick’s body and for the first time, Dahmer attempted to use his roadkill skills on his first human body. He cuts his body up into small parts and bag them for disposal. He took the bones and smashed them with a hammer. Before he cut the body up, he was infatuated with the body. He got aroused from the body and enjoyed having complete control of Hicks. I know its very sick right, but this was pleasing for Dahmer. Its like his dopamine levels rose whenever he got close to a dead body. But after he bagged the body, he went on to dispose it.

At the end of this episode he sits on top of his roof and take the ashes of Hick’s crushed bones and throw them in the air, ending episode three.
