PAS 4: London is red

Arsenal F.C. is a North London soccer team that currently;y sits second in the Premier League. Recently they have acquired many young superstars such as Bukayo Saka and Martin ødegaard. This sudden influx of new talent have helped take Arsenal from a mid-tier team to a top team in both domestic and international competition.

Derbies are rivalries of soccer teams from within the same cities. A previous example of a derby would be F.C. Barcelona and Real Madrid. London is interesting because there are many teams within the one city that compete against each other and are in the different tiers of British football. The term “London is red” comes from the derby of Arsenal versus Chelsea. Arsenal usually play in red and Chelsea in blue. Derbies are very meaningful to large amounts of people because of the amount of passion that these fans have and the history their teams have in playing against these other teams for many years.

The cannon on their emblem comes from the history of the club’s origins. The original team was made up of factory workers that produced munitions and explosives. This earned the workers the nickname of the “gunners” and it stands to this day.
