Cry Eagles Cry (Blog Post)

This post was inspired by Eric’s Sixer’s post.  I need to rant about the Philadelphia Eagles.  I am typing this right after the Seahawks defeated the Eagles 23-17, but the game was NOT that close.  The Eagles now fall to 3-7-1 on the season and they have fallen out of first place in the NFC East.  This team needs a change of direction.  If I was the person pulling the strings this is how it would go:

First of all, I would start Jalen Hurts at quarterback.  Carson Wentz simply needs to go.  He has debatably been the worst QB in the NFL.  I am not saying Hurts is the answer 100%, but we need to see what he brings to the table.  The Eagles are in position to have a top 6 pick and there are many talented QBs in this next draft including guys like Justin Fields or Trey lance that the Eagles could target.

I would also fire Doug Pederson.  I know there may be an emotional connection between fans and Doug given the fact that Doug brought the city its first and only championship.  It is clear that these Eagles are not the same team that won the Super Bowl back in 2017 though.  There is an obvious disconnect between Doug and the front office, the front office drafting Wentz’s replacement while Doug coddles the QB.  Even though these moves would not fix everything I think these are decisions that have to be made to take the next step forward.

  1. Funny enough I had a similar post during the game against the Seahawks. However, as I now write this comment the Eagles have moved Wentz to the Bench and Hurts to the top. With this switch, the Eagles went on to beat the Saints 24 to 21, and end their 9 game win streak. Hurts looked amazing on the field, he was aggressive and knew what to do when the pressure got tough. After his amazing start I believe Wentz should be nothing more than leverage to fix our broken team, while he still has some value to his name.

  2. It seems fitting that I comment on one of your sports-related posts as you have commented on both of mine at this point. I will be leaving a response to your comment on my most recent post as well idk if it alerts you. Anyway, in regards to this post, since it has been made, Jalen Hurts got the start against the Saints and put on a bit of a show as I am sure you saw. While it may be only one game, I am happy that we have at least something to look forward to watching for the rest of the season. I completely agree that Doug should be fired, but I am curious as to what you think we should do with Wentz. I personally believe that based on his history and contract we have to give him a shot under a new coach and offense, but I can’t deny that you are right about him playing like one of the worst QBs in the NFL. All in all, we should have an interesting last couple of games and likely a dramatic offseason, hopefully, the birds can do as well as the sixers did in retooling rather than rebuilding.
