In 133 BC, Tiberius Gracchus, Tribune of the Plebs, was murdered by Roman Senators in the name of preserving the Republic’s liberty.

Some have argued, especially in the wake of his death, that the Senators murdered Gracchus in order to protect Rome from tyranny; to preserve the traditions of Mos Maiorum and collegiality.

But, what really occurred was the murder of a good politician by nobles fearing for their own power, who used the tools available to him; against Roman tradition to benefit the greater good of Rome.
