Our lab aims to understand the neural and behavioral computations that guide valuation and decision making of individuals and teams across the lifespan. To do this, our lab uses an interdisciplinary approach that draws from neuroscience, economics, social and developmental psychology, and engineering.
We aim to understand decision-making processes (especially in situations of uncertainty and risk) that give rise to health risk behaviors such as substance use and reckless driving with a focus on the developmental period of adolescence. Ultimately, we hope to use our knowledge of decision-making processes to help shape engineered solutions for improving health outcomes.
Lab Values
We believe that our science is better with a diverse team. This means we embrace and encourage our lab members’ differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our lab members who they are.
We promise to conduct our science with integrity and respect for the welfare of our participants.
We value creating open and transparent research practices. This means we are committed to making our research meaningful and accessible.
We strive to create a lab environment that is supportive of one another and each person’s professional goals. This means we will treat one another with respect and kindness.
We are committed to conducting rigorous science and upholding the scientific process. This means we will be prepared and fully engaged when working together toward common goals. This means we will provide each other with and be open to receiving constructive criticism to promote learning. This means we will acknowledge our mistakes and be willing to correct them.
We value each person’s lived experiences and promise to give each other space to be heard as we work together as a team.
We are committed to listening, learning, and advocating for those who experience injustice and/or oppression. This means we will engage in continuous self-reflection and strive to make choices that are in line with our equity and justice principles.
