Purpose and Goal
Specialty trade contractors play a critical role in the successful completion of building construction projects. There is a growing need among project teams to maximize value through engagement with trade contractors. Builders often select subcontracting strategies based on their experience. This research aims to explore how to organize and involve specialty trade contractors and the impacts those strategies have on team behaviors and ultimately project performance.
Relevance to Industry
A research team from the Pennsylvania State University has created a questionnaire to collect detailed project information regarding project performance, project and trade partner organization, and procurement procedures. We hope to use project data to provide a guide based upon empirical data and insights from successful subcontracting practices from the industry. Builders can benefit from understanding effective methods for designing their subcontracting strategies based on detailed project conditions and participants’ characteristics.
