Aman’s: A Family Favorite

For this blog, I am shifting from my usual “unique dining” experiences to something that feels more personal and homely to me: Aman’s Indian Bistro. Aman’s has been in business since I was around 8 years old. One taste of their delicious Indian food was enough to make this my family’s favorite restaurant. What especially makes this restaurant special to me and my family is that this is the one place that my brother, who is on the severe end of the autism spectrum, loves and enthusiastically enjoys. The smile that lights up his face when we ask if he wants to go to Aman’s makes the experience 100 times better.

The image below shows some of the food we ordered the night I got home for Spring break.

The creamy orange curry is paneer kalimirch and the brown curry is dal makhani. These two dishes are my family’s favorite dishes at the restaurant. Paneer kalimirch is one of the lesser known Indian curries. Even though paneer kalimirch is not well known, it does make an appearance in the menus of some North Indian restaurants. Kalimirch, or black pepper, is the highlight of this dish. The presence of kalimirch is marked in a subtle way without overpowering the gravy with its pungency. Dal makhani is a buttery lentil curry. The dish is prepared by cooking whole black lentils with buttercream, and spices.

The plate in front is an Indo-Chinese dish called vegetable Hakka noodles. In India, the first dishes people think of when hearing Chinese food are mainly noodles, paneer Manchurian, sweet corn soup, and spicy chili potatoes. These Hakka noodles are popularly known as chow mein in India. The chow mein is spicy, full of veggies, and in my opinion, incredibly delicious. A more close up photo of Hakka noodles is shown below.

The Hakka noodles in Aman’s were my favorite dish of the three. The mouthwatering spices, heat, and bursts of flavor in each bite made this dish a memorable one and is surely one I will be ordering again in the future.

Overall, Aman’s never fails to disappoint me and my family. This restaurant will always be cherished as a family favorite, and I look forward to eating here again to celebrate the end of this quarantine situation we are in right now! For now, we will be venturing into re-creating some of these recipes at home now that we have more time.

  1. I love how you not only address the wonderful dishes and atmosphere that this restaurant provides but you also talk about how its been a little bit of a family tradition or favorite. These types of spots (whether they be food, entertainment, etc) always feel a little extra special as sentimental value and memories are deeply routed with our depictions of each experience. As always, it sounds absolute delicious!
