For my final passion blog post, I’m going to take us back to one of my most memorable dining experiences during my time at Penn State so far: November 8, 2019 (which also happened to be my 19th birthday) when a group of my friends and I went to BRGR for dinner to celebrate. A relatively young restaurant in State College and a popular spot in Pittsburgh, PA, BRGR features a great selection of burgers, shakes,

Those who know me would know that when it comes to career and academic-related things, I tend to be an extremely organized and like to plan things down to a T, but when it comes to my social life, more often than not, I choose to be spontaneous. What made my 19th birthday special was that this was relatively casual, as the plan to go out for dinner was made only a few hours before we actually went, I had several of my closest friends there with me, and that was the first time I even tried eating at BRGR. Some of my friends thought I was a bit crazy for not looking into the menu or choosing a place I had been to before, especially considering that I am a vegetarian, but this ended up being one of the best decisions I made and made my birthday dinner that much more enjoyable. Not only did we all have a great time, but the food was also simply incredible.
As a vegetarian, I was really impressed with the selection and options for substituting the meat in their dishes. I decided to go with something a bit spicy and ordered the Fire in the Hole impossible burger as pictured in the image below.
The burger had guacamole, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, chipotle aioli, sriracha, in addition to tomatoes, onions, and a pickle on the side. Needless to say, this was definitely quite a spicy dish.
Once we are back on campus in the fall, I will definitely try to go to BRGR at least once with my friends to try out some of the other options on their menu, including their well-renowned milkshakes. While it may be on the slightly pricier side of dining venues to eat in State College, especially for college students, I highly recommend that all Penn State students dine in at BRGR at least once during their time at Penn State.
This post is making me hungry! I love spicy food, and it was difficult not having hot sauce to put on my food at Penn State! I didn’t get a chance to try BRGR in State College, but when I return in the fall, I will certainly give this place a try. Great post!
My friends all went to BRGR a couple months ago and were OBSESSED. They literally raved about it for a week after. Thus, they tried to go back, this time taking me along, but the wait was so long we never ended up going which was a bummer. Hopefully when I am back in State College I can give it a try!!
