Eagles End of Season Recap

I know it has been since week 11 that I posted a game review and preview, so let’s take a look at our last final weeks of the season. Remember how we started the year off poorly and were doubted completely, especially when we were 2-5 after a shocking loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but we finished the season 9-8 (7-3 run) finishing as the newly added seven seed in the playoffs!! What an absolute turnaround! Do you know how when we’re playing poorly and losing games early on in the season and how it was because we barely ran the ball at all during then? Well once we started to and won games, it turns out we ended as the team with the most rushing yards the whole season! We ended up rushing for 2,715 yards on the season, primarily late in the season when, again, we started to actually win games!! We also had the most rushing touchdowns with 25 on the season.

Before we get into our playoff situation, let’s look at our final weeks of the season. We ended up beating the Saints in Week 11 40-29. In Week 12 we lost an absolutely crushing game against the terrible New York Giants team 13-7. We bounced back in Week 13 to beat the New York Jets 33-18. This started a nice streak where in Week 14 we beat Washington 27-17, then in Week 15 the Giants 34-10, and Washington again 20-16 in Week 16 to clinch that last playoff spot at a 9-7 record! We ended the season in a loss against the Cowboys who actually played their starters, whereas we played very few starters to keep our playoffs safe and ready for our playoff game.

Since we are the seven seed in the NFC playoff, we have to play the two seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers who finished the season 13-4. This is a tough matchup for the Birds knowing that we already lost to them Week 6 of this season 28-22. This wasn’t that bad of a loss but we got most of our points in the second half in an attempted comeback that was unsuccessful. We need to start the game well and fast, which we aren’t usually good at – we are more of a second half team. We let running back Leonard Fournette rush in two touchdowns and 81 yards which we need to shut down and worry about all game, knowing that he has rushed for 812 yards and eight touchdowns on the season, but it seems that he may be back and ready to play against us Week 1 of the playoffs. The Bucs also have the greatest quarterback in history in Tom Brady, but we beat him in the 2017 Super Bowl, and I think we can do it again. This game is going to be a great one Sunday at 1 PM. I foresee a HUGE win out of the Birds 31-27, with a touchdown from Dallas Goedert, Devonta Smith, and a QB rush from Mr. Hurts. FLY EAGLES FLY BABY!!!!

  1. Hey David! I can tell from your writing that you have a passion for football, particularly Eagles football. I’ve never really been a football person and just until coming to Penn State, I was completely clueless about the rules. It’s great that your team was able to make a comeback and is now in the playoffs! It’ll be interesting to see how they play against Tampa Bay. Looking forward to your next update!

  2. I’m not going to lie, I don’t know very much about football; however, I liked this recap because it was easy to understand and it was very thorough. It seems like the Eagles had a good year, especially with the most rushing touchdowns in the season. And, as you said, they seemed to make a comeback towards the end of the season. I can tell you’re very passionate, so I hope that the Eagles win against Tampa Bay on the 16th. I’m excited to read the next passion blog you post, because then I’ll know if they won or not.
