Professor Dean is looking to hire a 2L or 3L research assistant (RA) to assist with scholarly research projects. Research topics will focus upon employee benefits issues with a particular interest concerning self-funded health insurance plans, self-funded employers/plan sponsors, and the health insurance ecosystem in America.
Potential RAs should expect to engage with both case law and current litigation databases with an eye towards the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association & their regional plans defending against subscriber (FedEx et al) lawsuits, the Multi District Litigation (MDL) provider lawsuit and settlement agreement vs. BCBSA and their regional plans. Friendships with law librarians near and far could be useful for this role.
Prior familiarity with legal writing and legal research tools is required, but if you are eager to learn and willing to ask questions as you figure things out, we will work great together! If you’re interested in this role and the subject matter, email Professor Dean at ard6303@psu.edu with a short paragraph explaining the following:
- Why you’re interested,
- Prior RA or relevant legal research work, and
- Your availability.
