PILF Auction Spotlight – Theme

March 19, 2025 by Steffanie Craig Leave a Comment

What is the PILF Auction?

The Public Interest Law Fund (PILF) is a student-run organization that funds fellowships to encourage students to accept unpaid public interest summer internships at nonprofits and government agencies. Last year, five students received $5,000 to support them through their unpaid internships. We host several fundraisers during the year, but the PILF Auction is our biggest event! We invite local businesses and law firms to donate to the event, bringing together our local and legal communities.

The theme this year, if you haven’t already seen it, is Treat Yo’ Self, inspired by the show Parks and Rec. One day a year, two of the characters spend the day treating themselves. It’s the best day of the year! (YouTube video) To make it the best day of the year, we’ll have delicious Italian food to serve all dietary needs, balloon arches, a selfie station, colorful boas, costume jewelry, and more! I’ll be attending in the most sparkly outfit I own; your outfit is your first step to Treat Yo’ Self! Ticket Link

  5. Alex Dunn:  I want to welcome Alex Dunn, our new Carlisle Assistant Registrar, and thank her for jumping into the role wholeheartedly over the last two weeks. We’re thrilled to have you on the team!

Professor Sarah Williams had three recognitions:

  1. From Mae Teweldemedhin:  Professor Sarah Williams has been a great resource to me and other students! She gives honest, straightforward answers and feedback which has helped me in both my understanding of property but also in my decision making as I prepare to be an attorney. Thank you, Professor Williams, for making me “eat my vegetables” as you call it.
  2. From Chante Whyte: Thank you, Professor Williams, for always welcoming me into your office, listening to my endless rants, and offering your guidance and support. I truly appreciate your patience, wisdom, and the safe space you provide.
  3. From Madison Jackson:  Professor Williams creates a safe and welcoming space for every student. She consistently uplifts and supports me while offering honest guidance when I need it most. Above all, she believes in me. For anyone who has a bond with Professor Williams, you know how motivating, inspiring, and validating it feels for her to believe you. Thank you for all that you do! You are an exceptional professor, an inspiring mentor, and a true joy to be around.

Sally Brew would like to recognize Dean Santibañez-Bania:  I want to celebrate the incredible warmth and support we’ve experienced during the tough times at school! Your welcoming spirit has truly made a difference!

Haven Harrington had two recognitions:

  1. I want to celebrate the incredible warmth and support we’ve experienced during the tough times at school! Your welcoming spirit has truly made a difference!
  2. Haven deserves a shoutout for doing an amazing job in law school while raising her son! Being able to balance the demands of law school and of a new newborn is incredible, and we are all so proud of you.

BSC – They know who they are:  You have inspired me in ways that you cannot even imagine. We came in together hand in hand and we been stuck like glue since. You are all amazing, incredible people and I cannot wait to see all that you will accomplish. May our relationship continue to flourish. May the talks of Real housewives, cultures, and all the other ridiculous things we talk about continue. I love y’all forever n always.

Menen Pierre:  You can tell you take the BLSA President role very serious, and you do what is best for this community. Thank you for prioritizing us and making us feel welcomed. We appreciate you.

Sally Brew would like to recognize Ian Ulsh:  I value your intelligence and the support you provide as my supervisor.

Professor Martin would like to recognize her TA Team – Morgan, Casey, Josh, Marie Anne, Ayah, Nick, Sofi, and Romario: My TAs are very hardworking and support our 1Ls by improving their legal analysis and writing skills, and providing support and advice. Thank you for all you do!! I am extremely grateful for you!

Camille Darius:  Thank you so much for being such an incredible mentor and for always listening to me rant about school, internships, and my constant stress. I honestly couldn’t do it without you and your advice!

Noah Ansah:  Noel, you’re a real friend. You’ll tell us the hard truths, but also support us in our low moments. Throughout this tumultuous ride that is law school, having a true friend who has your back makes this terrible experience worth it.

Devon Spiva:  Devon you are the truest ally out there to all POCs. We need real white allyship in this community and in society during these times, and you are undoubtedly and unashamedly, a real one.

Jamelia Graham: Jamelia, you never hesitate to tell it how it is! Your experience and candidness is like a warm hug that gives us all the support when we need it most. Thank you for being there for us even though I know you desperately want to be out of this place!

Mock Trial Team:  Great job to the mock trial team for making it through the first round of the regional competition in Philly last weekend! Despite the long hours and lack of sleep, many of you still made it to softball practice and kept going. Great job to everyone!

Sally Brew would like to recognize Daney Stevens:  Daney, I truly appreciate your kindness and warmth. Your caring nature means so much to me. Thank you for being there.

Uzoma Elekwachi:  Uzoma is THE BEST — she is always so kind, considerate, and brilliant!

Gege George: Gege is INCREDIBLE and by far of the most stylish people in the 1L class!!

Ben Hill: For crushing his classes all while excelling at his judicial externship in Harrisburg.

India Lipscomb would like to recognize Cristen Williams:  I admire Cristen’s work ethic and dedication. More than that she is such a wonderful person, and I have really enjoyed getting to know her the last several months. If she ever gets sick of being study buddies, she can’t. We are stuck together.

Professor Martin would like to recognize Aidan Levinson: Thank you Aidan for your research assistance this past year. It has proven incredibly helpful. I appreciate you!

Sanya Memon: Sanya, you don’t let anything get you down. You never stop working, and in the face of adversity, you take it on, head on, never giving up. All your friends are so proud of what you’re achieving, never stop with your tenacity.
