What do you think about blogging?

I think blogging can be really cool. If you do it right, make sure to keep everything updated, interesting, and active then blogging can be a very handy tool. You can make it private like a personal journal or share your experiences with the world and see if anyone has the same interests or habits.

Is it still essential to online culture?

I wouldn’t say it is necessary for online culture still, but I do think that it is still an important part. You always hear people talking about beauty bloggers, or Disney bloggers, or parenting blogs. Certainly with Youtube and the rise of vlogging, blogging has fallen in popularity. Probably because Youtube is much more convenient to take is as a consumer. We don’t have to sit and read, you can play the video and either watch it or just listen to it is you are unable to watch it.

What’s the difference between blogging and other forms of online publishing?

I think that blogging is more of a form of self-publication rather than really publishing something online. When I think of publishing I think of more along the lines of online editorials, reviews, and news sources. Places that have whole professional teams to review, edit, and create content for the website. I understand that blogs can have teams as well, but they are usually small groups of people that are editing their own things rather than just having one part in the creation process they control all of it.

Have you done any blogging prior to this class?

I haven’t done any blogging before this. I think that it is going to be a very fun and interesting experience this semester.
