While you have not yet met me in person, I look forward to sharing with you a little about myself and joining you all next week. I am interested in taking this class to learn more about communities of practice in designing and facilitating a blended learning environment for K-12 teacher professional development experiences. Incorporating an on-line environment with face-to-fact teacher workshops is a very challenging concept and I look forward to learning and thinking more about this idea. I am in my final semester of taking classes towards a PhD in Science Education and hope that this class can help information my research.
I am currently Assistant Director at Penn State Center for Science and the Schools and one of my main responsibilities is working with Penn State STEM faculty and graduate students in designing and implementing teacher professional development programs. In addition to this, I also collaborate with faculty members in developing their broader impacts section on NSF grants, implementing the program when the grant is funded. It is exciting work and very interesting!
On a more personal side, I’m a proud Montanan who has lived in Great Britain, Idaho, Washington DC area, and Pennsylvania. I love to travel and my most recent personal trip was finding sun on the beach over the holidays with my husband and my most recent business trip was working with teachers and students in Africa. I look forward to thinking about ways to also engage international students and teachers in using technology as a collaborative tool to learning.
