It seems timely, but this Sunday there was a book review on the cover the NY Times book review called “Among the Disrupted” by Leon Wieseltier. He is reviewing a book by Mark Greif entitled “The Age of the Crisis of Man: Thoughts and Fiction in America, 1933-1973” However, the review is really a discussion that hits the core of one of the themes of our course — what is technology and what is its relationship with human culture (and for us in particular, learning). I can’t recommend the book, as I have not read it, but the review is worth reading on its own. I will leave you with a quote:
Every technology is used before it is completely understood. There is always a lag between an innovation and the apprehension of its consequences. We are living in that lag, and it is a right time to keep our heads and reflect.
Please do exactly that (for at least the next 14 weeks). Looking forward to class on Tuesday.
