To what degree is Diigo a community of practice or simply a medium for supporting CoP? Generate arguments for both.
While there are several elements of communities in Diigo, such as a shared repertoire and mutual engagement it lacks a joint enterprise. Without having all three elements of the communities of practice, Diigo becomes a platform for a CoP to occur rather than existing as a CoP.
There is a shared repertoire: when you post the link, there is an option in using tags which allow others to identify commonalities.
It features mutual engagement through users engaging in commenting on others links and sharing links of common interest.
Formal groups can utilize Diigo as a platform for the CoP, but it lacks a joint enterprise as there is no shared purpose.
There is only a shared purpose between selected members in Diigo if they choose to create a formal group.
