For my “This I Believe” podcast, I don’t really have any ideas I love yet but here are a couple I have brainstormed: I could talk about deforestation and how I believe it needs to stop. I can tie this to a personal experience because a forest nearby to my house got turned into a pile of sawdust that was actually bigger than my house. All of this was done to make room for a housing plan. I definitely prefer when the forest was there but now it is gone. I could use this story to advocate for the reduction of mass deforestation. I could also talk about how I believe that public transportation should be invested into more. There are many reasons why I believe this but it saves people money, improves the environment, and could help cut back on traffic. I only started realizing how important public transportation is when I got to Penn State.
For my passion blog, I have three options in my head. To start, I could continue my previous blog posts where I gave unique sea creatures the spotlight. I would explain some fascinated aspects of the creatures and I had a lot of fun doing the research for the blog. Continuing with my love of animals, I could also do something similar where I showcase some interesting animals instead of sea creatures. I think this would also be quite fun to research and I would find it quite enjoyable. Finally, I could do a passion blog that informs others on how living with ADHD is. Most people who do not have ADHD think that it is something completely different from what it actually is. It could help me learn more about my disability while also informing others on the truth behind living with ADHD.
For my civic issue blog, I would ideally like to focus on sustainability. More specifically, I am very interested in forms of alternative energy such as nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and hydroelectric. My other option could be focused on how small daily activities, like recycling or using a reusable water bottle can make a difference when it comes to climate change. This would all tie into the green movement and I could explain how these tasks affect the movement and how the movement affects the environment. Another option that I could talk about is environmental protection which connects with my love of nature and animals. I believe that nature needs protected because it is not only beautiful, but essential to human life. It is a topic I am passionate about but it would take more research than the other two ideas because I already have a substantial understanding of the previous topics.
It seems like your civic issues blog is well thought out and I think sustainability is a great topic! For your passion blog, I like both animal ideas, but I am biased to the last idea concerning ADHD because it would be more personal making it more interesting to read. Obviously, go with where you real passion lies, and I think all your ideas are great. For your “This I Believe” I think public transportation is a good topic. Not only is it practical, but you could also relate it to how it strengthens community and brings areas together. Overall, great ideas and I look forward to reading your blogs!
I think your ideas for your “This I Believe” podcast are really interesting. The topic of deforestation stood out to me in particular because I am a big fan of nature and greenery. My neighborhood has a lot of greenery and wildlife; I enjoy the wildlife in my backyard, and it would upset me to see my neighborhood forests taken down for more housing. I haven’t seen your passion blog about sea creatures, but it sounds like a nice choice because you have a passion for it and it could tie into your civic issue blog. For example, you could relate it to sustainability and emphasize how our actions can affect marine life. Overall great job!
I like both of your TIB ideas, as they both have national/worldwide civic importance. It seems like the deforestation idea might be more personal to you, so I’d recommend with going that way. For your passion blog, I love the ADHD idea because it’d be really interesting to learn about what the daily experience looks like. As the only one of my siblings who hasn’t been diagnosed with ADHD, it’s hard for me to believe that I don’t have it at least a little bit. I’d love to learn about those different forms of sustainable energy in your passion blog, but I like of your three ideas.
