Addressing The Climate Crisis

Welcome to my civic blog! I’ve decided to talk about the climate crisis and ways to improve this growing problem. I hope you learn a bit and feel free to share your thoughts, positive or negative, in the comments. Now let’s get into it!

Addressing climate change is one of the many issues at the forefront of worldwide politics. If humanity does not do something about the crisis, it is possible that a point of no return will be passed and irreversible damage will be done to humanity, nature, and the Earth itself. As it stands right now, coal, natural gas, oil, and other fossil fuels provide the majority of the United State’s energy. This is detrimental to the well-being of the environment because the production of energy from these fossil fuels creates greenhouse gasses which warms the atmosphere. The production of pollution from generating electricity is why energy is the focus of environmental discussions and debates.

These discussions and debates all culminate into ideas on how to slow down global warming and in turn, provide a solution to the climate crisis. One of these potential solutions is to implement, improve, and increase renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, etc. All of these sources come with their own list of pros and cons. Another possible solution to the climate crisis is nuclear power. Like the aforementioned renewable energy sources, nuclear power comes with a lengthy set of pros and cons. Many of the beneficial and detrimental aspects of nuclear power came to realization from the real-world results of nuclear power. To be more specific, many of the negative opinions toward nuclear energy came about after major tragedies. However, the negative opinions held toward nuclear energy are irrational, unjustified, and baseless.

In conclusions, the climate crisis we face is an extremely pressing problem. There are many ways to help fight against the climate crisis but if we do not take action soon, it will be detrimental. Next week, I will dive into the pros and cons of nuclear power. I am specifically interested in nuclear power because I think it is the best way to reduce carbon emissions and slow the warming of the Earth. See you then!

  1. I remember having a discussion a couple months ago with other people on my floor about renewable energy sources. Someone mentioned nuclear energy as a viable option. While I was iffy about nuclear energy at first, I realized that there are a lot of benefits that come with it, most notably that it doesn’t produce greenhouse emissions and they don’t require a lot of space.

  2. This is a cool topic to write about! My mom works as a materials engineer, focused on nuclear materials that are used in power plants, so I come from a pretty pro-nuclear household. Renewable energy is always a hot topic, but I do think that nuclear energy is a good choice to combat the issues we have with greenhouse gases, at least until they are more controlled. I’m excited to read more about your stance on this topic!
