My partner for the final project is Heather Miltenberger, and together we have created a communications plan to raise Alzheimer’s awareness among 75-85 year old African American women living in Philadelphia. These women are living below the poverty line, and have never graduated high school.

Hi Team,
I really love your proposed communication plan. It was thoroughly and excellently researched and designed. Your paper was very well organized and thoughtfully laid out. Your media selection was fantastic and I love how you listed each of the contacts. I also think it was very smart to include media pitching in your plan. It might make sense to have a backup plan if you aren’t able to identify story subjects or nobody wants to participate. It was very smart to use purple in your campaign creative as the official color of Alzheimer’s. One tactic you might want to consider is adding a caregiver support group area to your website to help connect people. I think that could be a good way to have an extra layer of support.
I do have a couple question though. What was the logic behind picking Philadelphia specifically? I know you mentioned PA was 5th on the states list so I’m thinking Philadelphia was picked because it is the largest city in PA. Just curious.
A second question I have is was there any thought to having an audience of younger women? I think it might be prudent, if education and awareness is an issue, to start the outreach earlier to potentially address the issue earlier in one’s life.
Overall, both the Communication Draft and Presentation were very well done, thoughtfully researched and your tactics match your audience to address the issue.
Hi Team! Nicole here from Healthy-U Agency. This topic for a campaign is extremely important and I think you both did a wonderful job on it for starters. Secondly, your campaign graphics are absolutely gorgeous. My undergrad was in design, and I cannot get over how incredible these look! Between the billboard, magnets, and digital ads– I AM SPEECHLESS! I think you both did an OUTSTANDING job on these and relying upon your message through your campaign advertisements. I also enjoyed how you separated your campaign evaluation plan through the three sections of preparation, implementation, and impact. That was an extremely organized move. You both did fantastic here.
I am not surprised that the campaigns I am seeing designed by the various groups all seem so well designed. I also gave Damon, Teri, and Nicole similar feedback about inclusion. You have done quite well with your focus for reaching your target and with the inclusion of community-based organizations. I also really appreciate your concept for using real community members in your ads. I think that Milwaukee campaign we read about in class showed the importance of using your target audience for helping spread your message as well. They made their campaign incredibly inclusive. We did our campaign using an approach specifically designed to have our message spread to our target audience in such a way that it seems that the message is coming from our target audience as well. I like the level of inclusion your group is attempting in your campaign. I personally believe one of the best approaches any campaign can use, is the approach to truly make your campaign seem relevant to as many members of your target audience as possible, so they help promote you campaign directly. For your campaign, the target goes beyond just the elderly African Americans suffering from Alzheimer’s, but to get through to their friends and family members as well. Your campaign is designed to actively spread awareness, which means that getting the most support from within the community is absolutely key. I think your campaign is well designed because you are making the campaign relevant in such a way as to entice the whole community to help spread your message. Well done.
Hello Danielle and Heather!
Wow, I feel like I’ve said this for all of the teams now, but seriously, this is a really great and well thought out campaign for such an important issue.
I really like how your focus group has two audiences – the target audience, of course, but also the caregivers and family members. I think that when it comes to health-related campaigns, it’s important to include the family members and other people or individuals who are close to the effected person(s), as they are also impacted.
It’s so important that you addressed racism within the healthcare sphere. I remember the first time I heard about the statistics of African American women during childbirth and white women during childbirth, and I was shocked. With that being said, it’s no surprise that African Americans prefer to see Black physicians and doctors.
Seriously, incredible job and congratulations on a well-organized campaign!
