Deena is an Associate Research Professor and Instructional Consultant-Technology Pedagogy Specialist at the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence at Penn State. Currently, she facilitates faculty development workshops and short courses, and consults on college teaching, learning design, course design, global & intercultural learning, and related topics. Deena is also an Italianist, and is affiliate faculty in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at Penn State. She additionally teaches online faculty development courses on online teaching for Penn State’s World Campus Faculty Development unit. Deena has taught upper & lower division language, literature, culture, and honors courses, both online and face to face, in the Italian programs at Penn State and, previously, at Rutgers University. Her professional experience also includes facilitation and instruction on education abroad programs. Deena’s professional interests lie in learning experience design and development, language learning and teaching, global learning, supporting teaching and learning with technological resources, autobiography, and women in the Italian Resistance. Deena is an ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) certified OPI & OPIc rater, and has also worked in oral proficiency assessment with Language Testing International (LTI) for over 15 years.
