Project Statement

Rock the Nation Tour is a board game for players of all ages, themed around 60s/70s rock n roll and the experience of touring musicians traveling across the United States to collect performance points. The design challenge for this project is to create an immersive board game experience that captures the spirit of the 60s/70s rock n roll era and the life of a touring musician. The game also provides players with strategic and exciting gameplay mechanics that keep them entertained. The goal is to develop a game that is easy to learn and play yet challenging and rewarding for players of all ages.
To approach the design challenge, I researched the 60s/70s rock n roll era and the life of touring musicians during that time. I wanted to understand the key themes and experiences that we could incorporate into the game mechanics to make it authentic. I have also researched other board games to gather inspiration for various game mechanics and designs. Some of these games include Ticket to Ride, Rock Band Manager, and The Game of Life. Once I had a solid understanding of the theme and gameplay, I began prototyping and playtesting the game mechanics. When I became confident with the gameplay, my friends and family helped with playtesting the game. With feedback from playtesting, I refined the game until it was fully functional and enjoyable.
The impact of this work is to provide a new and exciting board game option for people who love music and the 60s/70s era. By immersing players in the life of a touring musician, the game provides a unique educational opportunity to learn about the music industry during that time period. Additionally, this game can serve as a way for families and friends to bond over their shared love of music and board games. It caters to those interested in rock n roll history and the experience of touring musicians.
