Project Statement
This project is a design proposal that improves the remote-control feature on the SmartThings mobile app and showcases an innovative and user-centric approach to remote-control design. The SmartThings app is a Bluetooth remote control for Samsung smart devices. The design proposal enhances the user experience for finding shows and programs easier on the Samsung Smart TV as well as affords users greater control over their devices.
The design process started with user research and testing, wireframes, and prototypes, and finally the development of re-designed remote access and control. The process also incorporated user feedback and testing at almost every stage, ensuring it meets the user’s needs and expectations.
The new UI/UX design focuses on improving key affordances including personalization, responsiveness, accessibility, and intuitiveness. This was achieved by subtracting unneeded pages and buttons and implementing improved design elements such as bigger icons and easier navigation in findings apps, programs, remote controls, and channels. Personalization features enable the user to customize their own app page, which creates shortcuts to their desired streaming service.
