The International Journal of Information Technologies and the Systems Approach (IJITSA)

CALL FOR PAPERS

Mission of IJITSA:

The International Journal of Information
Technologies and the Systems Approach (IJITSA) is
an academic and practitioner journal created to
disseminate and discuss high quality research
results on information systems and related upper
and lower level systems as well as on its
interactions with software engineering, systems
engineering, complex systems and philosophy of
systems sciences issues, through rigorous
theoretical, modeling, engineering or behavioral
studies in order to explore, describe, explain,
predict, design, control, evaluate, interpret,
intervene and/or develop organizational systems
where Information Systems are the main objects of
study and the systems approach any variant is
the main research method and philosophical stance used.

Coverage of IJITSA:

IJITSA will publish papers one issue per
semester of high quality, rigor and relevance
on information systems that use the systems
approach as a main method of inquiry under the
following categories: (i) theoretical research
papers (from conceptual review and analysis,
formal analysis or modeling), (ii) empirical
research papers (from an engineering perspective
(e.g., papers that report the design, and/or
building and/or empirical (even as a pilot test)
evaluation of a system)) or and behavioral papers
(e.g. papers that report survey-based, case study
or action research approaches, where human
beings’ behavior including both subjective and
objective constructs- are the main focus of the
systems studied in laboratory and field settings).
Papers can have the following single or combined
research purposes: scholastic,
instrumental/methodological, exploratory,
descriptive, predictive, explanatory, design and
control, evaluative, interpretative or
interventionist. The studies can use the
following systemic research methodologies or
approaches: conceptual, formal mathematical,
systems simulation (discrete, multi-agent or
hybrid), systems dynamics, soft systems, action
research, critical systems, multi-methodology,
and their philosophical underpinnings can be
either positivist, interpretative, critical or
based in critical realism. They are expected to
be integrated or discussed under the perspective
of the systems approach with the long-term aim of
obtaining a unified view of information systems.

Topics include, but are not limited to the following:

Engineering frameworks, taxonomies, models,

First International Workshop on REsource Discovery (RED)

http://bioinformatics.eas.asu.edu/RED/red2008.html
in conjunction with
10th International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based Applications & Services
(iiWAS2008)
24-26 November 2008
Linz, Austria

A resource corresponds to an information source such as a data repository or database
management system (e.g., a query form or a textual search engine), a link between resources
(an index or hyperlink), or a service such as an application or tool. Resources are
characterized by core information including a name, a description of its input and its
output (parameters or format), its address, and various additional properties expressed as
metadata.
Resource discovery is the process of identifying and locating existing resources that have
a particular property. Machine-based resource discovery relies on crawling, clustering, and
classifying resources discovered on the Web automatically. Resources are organized with
respect to metadata that characterize their content (for data sources), their semantics (in
terms of ontological classes and relationships), their characteristics (syntactical
properties), their performance (with metrics and benchmarks), their quality (curation,
reliability, trust), etc. Resource discovery systems allow the expression of queries to
identify and locate resources that implement specific tasks.
The International Workshop on Resource Discovery aims at bringing together researchers,
developers, and practitioners to discuss research issues and experience in developing and
deploying concepts, applications, and solutions addressing various issues related to
resource discovery. Papers presenting either theoretical or applicative material are
expected. Because of the dynamic research and development effort towards supporting
resource discovery for the life sciences, we expect to receive many contributions in the
scope of this very exciting application domain. However, we encourage the submission of
generic solutions or the presentation of application experiences other than related to
life sciences.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
– Service publication standards (UDDI, OWL-S, etc.)
– Web services
– BioMoby services
– Resource semantics
– Resource formats and metadata
– Resource metadata for efficient execution
– Data-centric Web services
– Domain ontologies for resources
– Metadata models for describing web resources
– Automatic extraction of metadata in particular with Web 2.0 tools (wikis, blogs…)
– Models for registration of resources
– Automatic registration of resources
– Resource indexing
– Visualization of resource metadata
– Query languages for resource discovery
– user-friendly interface for resource discovery
– Resource mining, discovering services on the Web
– Mobile web services
– Service discovery protocols
– Identification protocols that can distinguish between resources and metadata
– Interoperability-driven resource discovery
– Discovery for integration, composition, workflow, dataflow
– Metadata for resource mapping
– Dynamic service composition
– Service efficiency prediction
– QoS-based service discovery
– Resource relevance measures
– Semantics-driven resource discovery
– Discovery on the private (or invisible) web

The Future Landscape of Sexualities

(deadline: June 20, 2008)

/thirdspace: a journal of feminist theory and culture/ invites contributions
for its forthcoming issue on ‘The Future Landscape of Sexualities.’
Recognizing the central role which discussions of sexuality, identity, and
culture have played in recent feminist scholarship, this issue will consider
how sexuality informs gendered identities, as well as nodes of power
including, race, class, ability, age, culture, nation, and religion. What
does the future hold for human sexualities and sexual identities? How might
current practices, assumptions, power relations, and identities shape these
future sexualities? What new forms might sexualities evolve into in the
future? How might these future sexualities transcend/reproduce current
definitions of, and ideologies concerning, sexuality and sexual identity?
Possible topics include:

· future utopic and dystopic sexualities

· role(s) of technologies (reproductive, virtual, synthetic) in the
evolution and expression of sexuality

· the evolution of sex work

· queer sexualities

· inversions and convergences of sexuality and identity (including
female masculinities and male femininities)

· the future of ‘normative’ masculinities and femininities

· sexualities and colour, sexualities and dis/ability, sexualities
and age

· depictions of future sexualities in fiction, film, music, and art

Papers that ground speculation about the future with historical analyses ofpast transitions in sexualities are also welcome.

We welcome submissions from a wide range of disciplinary and geographical perspectives. Submissions from researchers working within, or among, the disciplines of geography, sociology, literature, area studies, cultural studies, film/media studies, art, history, education, law, and women’s/gender studies are particularly encouraged.

We accept the submission of work from scholars of any rank or affiliation, and encourage submissions from emerging feminist scholars, including
graduate students.

All submissions to the journal must be submitted electronically through our online submission process. All submissions are peer-reviewed by established, senior feminist scholars. For more information on our publishing policies see:
