Age and Affect: Fear, Denial, Fantasy
The Age Studies Discussion Group of the Modern Language Association seeks
papers on age and affect for a slotted panel at the 2009 MLA conference.
Chronological age and the processes of aging often elicit strong emotions
from individuals at any stage of life. We are interested in papers on
affective responses to age in literature, film, popular culture, or any
other media. Some possible topics might include:
Gender, Age, and Affect
Marketing Youth
Sexuality, Eroticism, and Aging
Futurity, Negativity, and the Affects of Age
Age and Anxiety
Age, Affect, and Aesthetic Form
Joyful Aging
Coming of Age
Affects of Childhood or Adolescence
Age and Anger
Pain and the Aging Body
Mirrored Affect
Kairosis in the Reifungsroman
