Global Aspects of Librarianship

ACRL/DVC is planning a program on global aspects of librarianship.  Have you worked with international students or provided research support to local students and faculty abroad?  Have you attended an IFLA conference in recent years?  Do you work with foreign vendors/publishers?  Does your library support a satellite campus and library abroad?  Have you visited or worked in a library outside the United States?  Has your library hosted a foreign librarian?  Do you have an international sister institution?

If you were or are involved in any global, library-related services, consider sharing your experience and thoughts with other academic librarians.  We invite you to submit proposals on any aspect of global librarianship.  A committee of ACRL/DVC board members will select the final presentations; this is an opportunity to add a peer-reviewed presentation to your CV!

The program will be on Friday, November 9 at the Penn State Great Valley campus in Malvern.  All presentation slots will be 20 minutes long followed by a short period for questions and answers.  To submit a proposal, simply send an email with a presentation title and description (300 words maximum) to Tina Hertel [tina.hertel@muhlenberg.edu] by September 7 at 5:00 pm.  Please contact Tina if you need further information.

ACRL 2013 Roundtables

Are you interested in leading a discussion about a hot topic, but you don’t have the time to prepare a full presentation at ACRL 2013?  Consider leading a roundtable.

Roundtables are small, informal group discussions that give attendees the opportunity to exchange information, discuss best practices, and network with others around common themes and issues. Discussion facilitators should identify and develop a topic that will allow participants to discuss how they are dealing with specific issues at their libraries.

Roundtable discussions are limited to ten individuals per table, including participants and facilitator.

Individuals submitting roundtable proposals should address the topics to be covered, their importance to academic libraries, and three questions they would use to keep the discussion moving.

Potential topics can be seen in the program tags that are included on the proposal instructions page (link below). Poster topics from underrepresented categories are of particular interest.  Here are some examples:

* cataloging & technical services
* collections projects
* data management and services
* digitization
* preservation projects

Please use the application form to submit your idea in a brief, dynamic summary and provide a more complete discussion of the contents for the reviewers.  Please plan to submit an electronic version of your poster so that it can be posted online with conference handouts.

Submissions are due by November 9, 2012.
