Interested in sharing your innovative techniques and content?
Learning environments should model innovation, be centered on real-world issues, and be visually or technologically stimulating, Convo presentations should be too! Quality learning experiences for attendees should be designed using approaches that engage participants in active learning and lead to maximum retention.

Presentations selected for the program will include a wide variety of topics in several specific formats. All proposals will be evaluated according to established criteria. Following a peer review only the highest quality presentations that best fit the framework of the Convocation will be added to the program. To help you get started review the educational strands and suggested topics here.

Workshops
[May be scheduled on any day of the 3-day conference; 60-minutes]
KDP is seeking workshop presenters who will engage attendees in innovative ways, create highly interactive sessions, and provide opportunities for application and use of the information. Ideally, the format should be no more than 50% delivered information, with the rest of the session including interactive or hands-on engagement.

EdTalks
[May be scheduled on any day of the 3-day conference; 15 minutes within a 60-minute session]
Individuals will have 15 minutes to share a tightly focused presentation, followed by a 15-minute block at the end for questions and discussion. KDP will select and group three topically related presentations within each session.

Story Slams
[May be scheduled on any day of the 3-day conference; 10 minutes within a 60-minute session]
Real stories are an engaging way to convey impactful messages and lessons. In this format, selected presenters must share a personal story from their own experience in a way that includes a lesson in overcoming an obstacle in a school, team, or professional setting or a teaching strategy. KDP will assign each presenter to a group so that attendees will listen to a series of five presenters, each presenter sharing a 10-minute story.

Chapter Posters
[Saturday only, 75-minute session]
Set up like a gallery, this poster session provides an informal way for chapters to share best practices and successful strategies within the Chapter Member Engagement Model. Through a poster display, a prepared 10–15 minute presentation, and handouts, posters offer new ideas for programming, leadership, and chapter management that current and future leaders can take back to their respective chapters. Possible topics for this poster session include service projects, officer training, member retention programs, fundraising practices, collaboration with community agencies, literacy programs, and strategies for becoming an Achieving Chapter of Excellence (ACE) chapter.

Advances in Library Administration and Organization Project Management in the Library Workplace

Publication due 2017

Series Editor: Samantha Hines, Peninsula College

Volume Editor: Alice Daugherty, Louisiana State University Libraries

Many works have been published on ‘how to do project management’ in librarianship, but there are gaps in coverage of the deeper issues and surrounding processes. For example, what methods have been successfully used, in the library workplace, for assessing efficacy of project management?  What are the future trends and implications for library administration and management as formal project management schema become more commonplace in library work? How do these formal schemas demonstrably affect and improve library workplaces? For this forthcoming volume we welcome submissions that consider how project management affects library administration and that address the role of project management in the library workplace.

Proposals in the following areas would be of particular interest:

  • Assessments of project management approaches
  • History of project management in library administration and future trends
  • Integration of project management processes and procedures within libraries
  • Efficacy of project management tools for library workplaces and projects
  • Project-related problem solving
  • Project participants and teambuilding
  • Project leadership in libraries
  • Project management education for library workers

This will be the second volume of Advances in Library Administration and Organization (ALAO) to publish in 2017.

About the Advances in Library Administration and Organization series

ALAO offers long-form research, comprehensive discussions of theoretical developments, and in-depth accounts of evidence-based practice in library administration and organization.  The series answers the questions, “How have libraries been managed, and how should they be managed?” It goes beyond a platform for the sharing of research to provide a venue for dialogue across issues, in a way that traditional peer reviewed journals cannot.  Through this series, practitioners can glean new approaches in challenging times and collaborate on the exploration of scholarly solutions to professional quandaries.

How to submit

We are currently seeking proposals for the 2017 volume on project management in the library workplace.  If you are interested in contributing to this volume, please send a proposal including author details and estimated length of final submission to Alice Daugherty at adaugher@lsu.edu by November 15, 2016.

ELI Annual Meeting 2017: Transforming the Academy: Building Communities of Practice

February 13–15, 2017

Houston, Texas

The EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) is a community of higher education institutions and organizations committed to advancing learning through information technology innovation. The ELI Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for those interested in learning, learning principles and practices, and learning technologies to explore, network, and share. Find more information about the ELI mission and philosophy here.

Transforming the Academy: Building Communities of Practice

Support of the teaching and learning mission is a collaborative enterprise involving multiple campus organizations. Today our success depends on working with a cohort of colleagues to discover the best instructional and learning practices and to leverage the technology needed to enable them. These new practices also have interinstitutional dimensions, as creative partnerships and consortia play an increasingly important role in defining our educational landscape. Join your colleagues to engage in discussions around the key teaching and learning issues and contribute the discoveries you are making at your campus. Together we’ll explore these and other questions:

  • What new kinds of leadership are required for this new teaching and learning landscape?
  • How do we re-architect our learning environments to meet the needs of students and educators?
  • How can we best harness our learning data to inform our practice?
  • What emerging technologies are best suited to enable progress toward increased student success?
  • How can we best engage our faculty and instructors, enabling them to innovate and discover more successful practices?

2017 Annual Meeting Tracks

The 2016 ELI Key Issues, as voted on by over 900 community members, served as the basis for the thematic 2017 Annual Meeting tracks. We have blended the 20 key issues to form the set of thematic tracks listed below. Since they represent the areas of keenest interest across the teaching and learning community, proposals that address one or more of these tracks will receive highest priority:

  • Current and future learning environments and spaces
  • Analytics: capturing and using learning data
  • Leading academic transformation
  • What works: evidence of impact and learning science
  • Faculty development and engagement
  • Accessibility and universal design for learning
  • Emerging learning technology and practices
  • Online, blended, and hybrid learning models
  • Other

Learning Objectives and Participant Engagement Strategies

The ELI proposal reviewers will closely examine and rate each proposed session’s learning objectives, which should clearly describe what participants will know or be able to do as a result of participating in the session. A successful proposal must also include the specific and creative ways in which the presenter(s) will engage with participants through active learning strategies. The ELI encourages innovative and participatory session design, the creative use of technology, and active engagement by all participants.

Session Types

All ELI annual meeting sessions will be conducted face-to-face in the meeting venue. Please take a moment to view this 4-minute video on how to write an effective proposal.

All submitted proposals are reviewed and evaluated by the ELI Annual Meeting Program Committee and invited readers against the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the ideas, innovations, and methods to other institutions
  • Clarity and appropriateness of the learning objectives for the session
  • Effectiveness and appropriateness of proposed active learning and audience engagement strategies
  • Faculty members, full-time instructors, or students as co-presenters
  • Quality, clarity, and economy of the written proposal
  • Evidence of supporting research or assessment
  • Team involvement, from one or more institutions

Corporate Participation

Researchers with corporate affiliation are welcome to submit proposals, either on their own or in collaboration with campus partners. These proposals must demonstrate clearly that the presentation will report on objective, product-independent research. The presentation’s subject must be of wide and general interest to the teaching and learning community, independent of any local vendor relationships and marketing interests. The proposal must make it clear that the session demonstrates thought leadership, addressing key challenges and themes universal to innovation in teaching and learning, without reference to specific products or services.

Annual Meeting Fees: Students and Presenters

ELI will provide complimentary registration for up to two full-time undergraduate or graduate student presenters per session. ELI strives to draw the best possible presentations for the annual meeting, regardless of source. To support this goal, presenters selected from non–ELI member institutions register at the member rate for the annual meeting.

Handbook of Research on Teacher Education for Ethical Professional Practice

Call for chapters
We are editing a handbook of research focused on teacher education. The full call is here- http://www.igi-global.com/publish/call-for-papers/call-details/1880

Description-
The ubiquitous nature of technology has changed how people interact, communicate, collaborate and learn. With a simple click, a photograph can be shared with the world. With 140 simple characters, a post can capture a revolution in the making. While technology has provided exciting new possibilities in our society, it has also created new challenges and opportunities for teacher preparation programs that seek to develop professional ethical practices amongst their teacher candidates. An Internet search can lead one to a host of technological missteps by beginning and experienced teachers. From unprofessional posts on social media to inappropriate communication with students, technology has expanded the lens of ethical behavior for teachers. As a field, how do teacher educators best prepare teacher candidates for the professional practices in an ever-evolving digital society? Besides preparing new teachers to avoid unprofessional activities online, teacher educators must help them develop complex understandings of larger issues such as access, social justice, and diversity in digital world. These undertandings can help the beginning and inservice teacher better navigate the professional expectations as technologies, learning environments and methods of instruction continue to change.

This book looks to showcase research and examine initiatives by teacher educators to support the development of ethical professional practices for beginning and inservice teachers in digital world. The editors will seek chapters that address different aspects of professional practices including responsible use of instructional technologies, appropriate social media use, ethical training and related topics.

If you have questions please e-mail us,

Proposals Submission Deadline: July 15, 2015 Full Chapters Due: September 30, 2015 Submission Date: January 30, 2016
Introduction

From the management point of view, Higher Education is no longer perceived as stage of learning that occurs at universities, academies, colleges, seminaries, and institutes of technology, rather, it is in the domain of support services provided to the learners in the form of academic programmes / educational programmes as ‘Educational Products’ in the higher learning institutions, now considered as Professional Organizations. Evidently, the area of Higher Education needs to be analyzed from this perspective. With greater emphasis on integration of technology with education and trans-national collaboration amongst the Universities, Higher Education Management is a specialized area with ample research taking place in policy, governance, technological integration, marketing, leadership and development etc. in Higher Education.

A background research of available literature on Higher Education Management revealed a need for the Handbook of Research related to Higher Education Management. Existing books on similar and related titles of Higher Education Management clearly shows that although there is significant amount of literature on Higher Education Management as a whole but a Handbook of Research on Administration, Policy, and Leadership in Higher Education and that too in the context of Research Studies/ Case Studies from Trans-national perspective is yet to be published. Hence, there is an urgent need to fill the gap with a Handbook of Research on Administration, Policy, and Leadership in Higher Education, comprising research studies / Case Studies related to Technology, Governance, Policy, Administration, Marketing and Transnational Collaboration with a holistic perspective of Higher Education.

Therefore, this Handbook is proposed to be a concerted effort to collaborate with researchers to share their research studies, case studies, innovations and good practices in the various conceptual, functional and operational dimension of Higher Education.

Objective

The Handbook has been planned and proposed to address the core issues of Technology, Management, Governance, Administration, Leadership, Policy and Marketing etc. in the domain of Higher Education including Distance Education with the following set of objectives:

  1. To present a comprehensive volume of Research Studies/ Case Studies on Trans-national Technological and Institutional collaboration amongst institutions of Higher Education and related areas;
  2. To provide the audience a comparative and analytical perspective of various issues like Technology, Governance, Policy, Marketing etc. in Higher Education institutions, their educational programs and support services and the related issues in the context of international competition; and
  3. To highlight the strategic framework adopted by Higher Education Institutions and policies of developing and marketing educational programs and student services to successfully meet global competitive challenges, thus have competitive advantage over other institutions.

Accordingly, the mission of this handbook is to provide an international platform to the policy makers, teachers and researchers, educational program managers and developers, educators, trainers, educational administrators, marketing specialists etc. to contribute and share their research studies, experiences, ideas, attitudes and perspectives on how institutions in their respective countries are addressing the core issues of management of higher education towards providing quality and internationally accredited higher education.

Target Audience

The proposed handbook is perceptibly going to be very useful for upper – level course supplement especially in Masters and Doctorate level programs in Higher Education Management, Educational Administration, Marketing Management, Services Marketing, Educational Management, Higher Education Planning and Management, Higher Education Administration and Leadership, Policy on Higher Education, Higher Education Marketing as a specialized stream because students and researchers would get good deal of detailed and comparative resource, strategies, experiences and challenges in a single volume.

It is expected that this handbook would certainly be useful as a library reference in all single and dual mode institutions of not only higher education but also non formal education, vocational education, distance education etc around the world due to its comprehensive and comparative character.

The proposed publication is expected to be of use to the following audience:

  1. Higher Education Policy makers and Administrators, Educators, Trainers and Teachers, and Researchers in Educational Management: The proposed handbook will provide a comparative and comprehensive analysis of higher education management on various issues across the world and also best practices and experiences from the varied range of countries. The audience of this handbook will benefit by having a single volume focusing on all these aspects. It will act as a good resource book for researchers in Educational Management, Marketing of Educational Programs, Higher Education and Management and Development of Education. By concentrating on various experiences and perspectives across the world, scholars of different institutions will get to know about latest advancements and applications of technology and marketing ideas in higher education of other countries thus using and adopting these as best practices in their own institution.

  1. Educational Program Managers, Support Services Managers, External Relation, partnership managers and Business Development officers: Since the book is concentrating on the core issue of educational management in Higher Education from trans-national perspective so it is expected that this book would provide a comprehensive insight into key international collaborative strategies for higher educational institutions.
