Public Services Quarterly Marketing Column Editor

Public Services Quarterly is published four times per year by Taylor & Francis,
and features a strong set of columns each issue, including professional reading
reviews, a special libraries column, internet resources reviews, and others.

One of the columns is focused on marketing in libraries.  The column has
featured essays about a variety of creative and innovative marketing strategies
used to highlight collections or promote services in all types of libraries.  
The column editor is stepping down, so I’m recruiting contributors and/or a new
editor for Volume 9 (2013) and beyond.        We do have an item lined up for issue
#1; the first deadline for a new editor or contributor will be March 1, 2013.

If you would be interested in contributing a column or taking on the column
editor duties, please send me an email with some info about your experience and
qualifications.

Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP) Production editor

EBLIP Seeks New Production Editor


Evidence Based Library and Information Practice (EBLIP) is a peer reviewed, open access journal, which provides a forum for librarians and other information professionals to discover research that may contribute to decision making in professional practice. EBLIP is published quarterly by the University of Alberta Learning Services. EBLIP publishes original research and commentary on the topic of evidence based library and information practice, as well as reviews of previously published research (evidence summaries) on a wide number of topics.

 

EBLIP seeks a new Production Editor, for a three year term commencing December 2012.

 

As with all other EBLIP Editorial Positions, the Production Editor is a voluntary appointment.

 

The Production Editor role is one of the final steps of the journal production process. Responsibilities include laying out the PDF and HTML of all journal content and working with section editors to make the final publication look professional, attractive and in the house style.

Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, good knowledge of HTML, strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines are essential. Knowledge of the OJS system would also be beneficial.

The role involves a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month, with the bulk of the work occurring on a quarterly basis prior to journal publication. The production editor should also be available to attend monthly editorial meetings via Skype.

 

The new Editor should be in a position to commence working with the outgoing Production Editor by mid November to ensure an effective handover of responsibilities and training.

SRRT Book Reviews Editor

Are you looking for a way to be more involved in the Social Responsibilities Round Table? Are you passionate about books and their role in social responsibility? Do you have excellent writing and editing skills? Are you good at meeting deadlines and encouraging others to meet them as well? If so, the SRRT Newsletter book reviews editor might be just the volunteer position you're looking for! Jennifer Caldwell is stepping down as book reviews editor in December 2011 and the SRRT Editorial Board is looking for a new editor to take her place. The SRRT Newsletter is produced electronically on a quarterly basis. The book reviews editor's responsibilities include maintaining a list of reviewers, editing reviews, selecting materials for review and soliciting reviews. Editor, Information Technology and Libraries (ITAL)

Position Description: Editor, Information Technology and Libraries (ITAL)

 

Information Technology and Libraries (ITAL) is the official refereed journal of LITA. Published since 1968, ITAL is a leading publication in the library and information science field.  ITAL publishes material related to all aspects of information technology and libraries, including digital libraries, electronic publishing, distributed systems and networks, technology management in libraries, security, desktop applications, online catalogs and bibliographic systems. 

The new editor will lead the ITAL Editorial Board in identifying a model for publishing ITAL as an e-only, open access journal.  With LITA Board approval, the ITAL Editorial Board will move forward to implement the model.  LITA seeks an editor for ITAL who can provide both leadership and continuity for the journal.

 

Responsibilities

 

1. The editor assumes final authority for the content of each issue of ITAL. Responsible exercise of that authority requires definition of and adherence to standards and scope for ITAL.

 

2. The editor is responsible for the full publication workflow, from receipt and double-blind review of manuscripts, communication with authors, copy-editing and publication.

 

3. The editor appoints and works closely with the ITAL Managing Editor.

 

4. The editor chairs the ITAL Editorial Board Committee and is an ex officio member of the LITA Publications Committee.

 

Qualifications

 

*       Must be a current LITA member and knowledgeable about current issues in library and information technology.

 

*       Must have a publication record or background, which demonstrates excellent writing skills.

 

*       Must have editorial experience. Experience in electronic publishing is desired.

 

*       Must be able to attend ALA Annual and ALA Midwinter.

 

 

Benefits

 

Although there is no pay associated with the position, the person will receive a stipend of $1500/year or will be reimbursed for travel and lodging expenses up to $1500/year, and receive free press registration for attending the ALA Midwinter meeting and Annual Conference. No reimbursement is provided for other LITA programs or if the editor is unable to fulfill stated responsibilities.

YALSA Seeks Member Editor for new Online Research Journal

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE ONLINE JOURNAL:

  • To serve as a vehicle for disseminating research of interest to librarians, library workers  and academics who focus on library service to young adults, ages 12 through 18.
  • To provide researchers with a respected vehicle for publishing research of interest to professionals who focus on library services to young adults.
  • To serve as the official research publication of the association, including but not limited to publishing annotated lists of recent research from YALSA’s Research Committee, Henne Award winning research and papers from YALSA’s biennial Young Adult Literature Symposium.
  • The scope of the online journal includes all aspects of library services to young adults at every level and for all types of libraries.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                  Excellent oral and written communications skills.

2.                  Must have the technical capacity to work in a fully electronic environment; knowledge of HTML, web accessibility standards, and online publications a plus.

3.                  Editing experience in publishing or journalism, sufficient to enable the individual to solicit and select research that will result in a high-quality publication that addresses the diverse interest of the readership.

4.                  Dynamic, self-motivated individual.

5.                  Ability to delegate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Member Editor:

         Deliver to YALSA a final set of copy for each issue according to previously set deadlines, satisfactory to YALSA in content and form and ready for publication on the journal’s website. 

         Set the scope and tone of the journal both textually and visually.

         Work with YALSA’s Research Journal Advisory Board to develop a yearly editorial calendar, to solicit content for the online journal and to facilitate the refereeing process.

         Work with the Advisory Board to aggressively encourage the submission of high-quality content according to current issues and interests in the field and maintain and develop positive relationships with authors and potential authors.

         Complete a review of all submitted content in light of the philosophy, purpose and general style of the publication.

         Oversee the refereeing process.  Peruse manuscripts and reject papers that are clearly outside of the scope of the journal.  Work with Advisory Board to send manuscripts within the scope to at least two reviewers.

         Correspond in a timely manner with contributors regarding acceptance, rewriting, or rejection of manuscripts.

         Supervise the editing of manuscripts (including rewriting, reorganizing, validating information in content, etc.).

         Work with YALSA’s Communications Specialist to determine schedules for publication.

         Prepare each issue for publication by planning the table of contents, writing introductory notes, preparing author biographies, identifying heads and subheads, providing tables, charts, etc.

         Secure copyright as necessary for articles and images and provide them to YALSA Communications Specialist.

         Thoroughly review and edit online drafts for both first and second passes.

         Communicate regularly with YALSA’s Communications Specialist.

         Communicate with the Member Editor of YAttitudes, YALS, Member Manager of the blog and Research Committee Chair to collaborate when appropriate.

         Attend ALA’s Annual Conference and Midwinter Meeting, including any meetings of YALSA’s Research Journal Advisory Board, to solicit manuscripts and to assist YALSA with promoting the publication.

         Prepare bi-annual reports for YALSA’s Board of Directors, to be turned in one month before ALA’s Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference.

         Answer questions and inquiries about the online journal.

         Perform other relevant duties as needed.

 

YALSA Communications Specialist:

  • Communicates regularly with Editor to provide support and facilitate work.
  • Works with production team to maintain the template for the journal.
  • Works with production team and the Member Editor to develop a publication schedule and comply with it.
  • Handles all financial transactions for the journal.  
  • Oversees all communications with YALSA’s ad rep.
  • Promotes the publication through appropriate venues.

 

YALSA Research Journal Advisory Board:

         Work with the Member Editor to develop a yearly editorial calendar, to solicit content for the online journal and to facilitate the refereeing process.

         Collaborate with the Member Editor to aggressively encourage the submission of high-quality content according to current issues and interests in the field and maintain and develop positive relationships with contributors and potential contributors.

         Work with the Member Editor to implement the refereeing process.

  • Include the Member Editor in any meetings of the Advisory Board.
  • Assist the Communications Specialist and Member Editor with promoting the online journal.

Young Adult Library Services-Editor

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) is seeking a Member Editor for its award winning quarterly journal, Young Adult Library Services. The deadline for applications is April 10, 2009. 

 

The Member Editor will be responsible for the textual and pictorial content of the quarterly publication, and will work closely with YALSA’s Editorial Advisory Board, member groups and YALSA’s Communications Specialist to solicit articles and information.  The Member Editor will also edit and proof all copy for each issue.

 

Applicants must have editorial experience, excellent communications skills, the technical capacity to work in an electronic environment, and be YALSA members.  Experience in library service to young adults is preferred. 

 

The Member Editor will be selected by June 1, 2009.  The term of the appointment is two years beginning with work on the Winter 2010 issue and ending with completion of the Fall 2011 issue.  The Member Editor will receive an honorarium of $500 per issue and $500 to attend each of ALA’s Midwinter and Annual Conferences.

       Work with YALSA’s Communications Specialist and production team to determine schedules for publication.

       Manage editorial office and write editorials.

       Manage the work of columnists and reviewers.

       Aggressively encourage the submission of high-quality articles according to current activities and interests of the field and maintain and develop positive relationships with authors and potential authors.

       Complete a thorough review of all submitted content in light of the philosophy, purpose and general style of the publication.

       Corresponds in a timely manner with authors regarding acceptance, rewriting, or rejection of articles.

       Edit all copy (including rewriting, reorganizing, validating information in content, etc.).

       Work with the Communications Specialist to determine association news to be included in each issue of the journal.

       Prepare each issue for publication by planning the table of contents, writing introductory notes, identifying text to be highlighted in pull quotes, determine the placement of images, etc.

       Secure copyright as necessary for articles and images and provide them to YALSA Communications Specialist

       Thoroughly review and edit page proofs for both first and second passes.

       Communicate with production team and the YALSA staff regularly.

       Communicate with the Member Editor of YAttitudes and the Member Manager of the blog to collaborate when appropriate.

       Attend ALA’s Annual Conference and Midwinter Meeting, including meetings of YALSA’s Editorial Advisory Board, to assist YALSA with promoting the publication and also to solicit authors and advertisers.

       Prepare an annual report for YALSA’s Board of Directors, to be turned in one month before ALA’s Annual Conference.
