Get to Know Me

Welcome to Penn State of Mind, my name is Dominique Davis! I am twenty-two years old and currently live in Houston, Texas where the humidity ruins my hair one day at a time. I was born in Maine but moved to Texas when I was five years old and have lived here ever since. This is my third semester at Penn State World Campus where I have been pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. Prior to transferring to Penn State, I earned my Associates of Arts degree from Lone Star Community College. Once I have graduated, I am hoping to obtain a career in Fashion Merchandising.

I have two very spoiled dogs, a yorkie and bichon poo, who live on greenies and love to go on car rides. When I am not doing schoolwork, I enjoy fashion, photography, drawing, listening to audio books, and baking. Some of my favorites include: favorite place is Disney World, favorite food is Spaghetti, favorite movie is The Mirror Has Two Faces, favorite color is blue, favorite candy is Reese’s, and favorite place to shop is ASOS. As I have lived in Texas most of my life and have visited very few places, I would also love to spend more time traveling in the future. Some places I’ve always wanted to see are Rome, Athens, Tokyo, and Seoul.

I am taking this class as part of a requirement for my major, however, I am excited to gain more knowledge about information systems. I’ve always wanted to start a fashion blog but never knew where to begin. Hopefully, this activity will be the foothold into further pursuing this aspiration. I am pursuing a degree to give me a good foundation for my future career. Marketing has always been of interest to me as my family members have exposed me to it. Once I have finished my degree, I plan on obtaining a certificate in digital arts/graphic design to apply it in a career geared towards designing advertisements.

I have a basic understanding of information systems. While at community college, I took a business computer applications course which taught the ins and outs of how to efficiently use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additionally, my family has an online jewelry business where I have mainly worked in social media marketing for Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. However, I’ve also gained an understanding of other aspects such as website design, managing inventory, etc. while shadowing. I know there is still so much I don’t know but I am excited to further my knowledge of information systems during this course.

  1. Hi Dominique! I absolutely love Reeses too. I went through a phase when I would eat at least five a day for no reason, but I actually have not had any in a while. You should try the Reeses minis!

  2. Humidity is an absolute killer for hair and general morale. It is likely my least favorite thing about the South. But there is something to be said for what it does for one’s complexion. I noticed that you mentioned audio books. It seems to be a growing trend these days, may I ask what application you use and to what authors you enjoy? In regards to your aspirations for creating a fashion blog, are you planning for it to be a hobby or are you aspiring to become a fashion personality and generate revenue with it?

Intro to Marketing was a surprisingly interesting class for me. I absolutely loved the content and craft involved in being successful in the course and it opened me up to the possibility of a potential future in marketing. Being your third semester, I assume you have taken at least some type of marketing course and hopefully the motivation to continue has remained. You seem to be quite an interesting person and I look forward to reading future posts and seeing how this site develops!

  3. Hey Dominique!
With us both being Texans and Marketing students, it seems like we already have a lot in common! I also love Reese’s as well, and while I can’t quite get into audio-books, I read an excessive amount.
Good luck this semester, and I hope you were safe from the Hurricane this week!

  4. Hey Dominique!

Mind if I ask what type of photography you might do? I enjoy photography myself, especially portraits and nature, and I’m always interested in what other people are shooting as well.

  5. Hey Dominique,

I really like what you did with your blog. Its highly professional, stylish, and incredibly chic. I enjoyed reading your story as well and I could relate to it on many different levels. I think you truly took this assignment and made it your own and if you wanted to start that fashion blog, you would easily be able to do it–especially now that you’re in this course. I’m a former Texan as well and when I moved up north, I had such a tough time removing my plates. My license still says Texas but I don’t know when I’ll get that changed. I’ll probably hold on to that until it expires. Anyways, I think you did an incredible job and I look forward to potentially working with you in this course. Talk soon.
