4.3.1 Design Concept

4.3.1 Design Concept (Prep)

When I chose what I wanted to do for this project there were a couple of things that came to mind that I would use for the project and they were things that I like. I thought about a lot of the but the one thing that I had gotten into was skincare. Which is why I brought in was Facial Masks I thought that they had a unique design that would be useful for editing, so that was for my scanning. Before the Round Robin there was some prepping that needed to be done before the actual Round Robin had started and I had to edit two of my other classmates artwork with pictures that I think would’ve suited their concept. For the prepping we had to change the resolution of the photo because when it was scanned the resolution looks real sharp and every detail can be seen from the scan. So, to minimize the size of it I had to dim down the resolution a little bit, plus clean the specs of dust that were from the scanner, then positioning it, and just getting the final product ready for the Round Robin.

4.2 Exercise Reflections

4.2.1 Scanning and Resolution

When the words scanning and resolution come to mind it is the thought of pulling in things from the outside world and putting them into the digital world. To digital artists it is content for them and it can be used in many different ways. For this assignment we had a photo that was scanned on to the computer and we had to alter this photo by its resolution. So, when I was able to get the picture and I changed the resolution to give a clearer quality on it to make it look better, then changed the color scheme of the picture giving it a different color contrast.

4.2.2 Tonal Scale

For this assignment it is focusing on the changing the overall look from the original photo. When we are changing the tonal scale it is the picture and color scheme of the photo giving it a digital makeover. When I received the photo I started working on changing the overall look of this picture first by changing the quality which would be the resolution giving it a clearer hd look to the picture. Plus a grayscale picture that shows how it is done in black and white. The last thing that was done was the adjustment of the red, blue, and green to work on the color scheme to make it look nicer.

4.2.3 Layering and Collage

Creating a collage is a tricky thing when it comes to making an art and lets just say it was tricky. A collage to me is a series of photos that are coming together in order to form a new artwork but the best thing is, it’s a lot of editing and moving around. This is because there are so many elements that we are working with. Including body parts, it would include arms, legs, a head, an ear, the back, legs, and shoes. Editing this was difficult but in the end it had turned out to be a successful artwork in the end.

6.1 Reference Reflections

6.1.1 Co-Evolution

Co-evolution is an interesting concept especially when it comes to art because it is a word that people does not about too often when it comes to that particular subject. For me I think of the word as a more technical and logical word that would be used when scholars are studying science or any other form of study. In this case Co-evolution for art involves the inclusion of multiple arts being put together in order to form one art work that appeals to the artists eyes. This artwork would be called a portfolio a collection of art works coming together that have been made by that artist.

6.1.2 Hierarchy, Rules and Randomness

When we hear the word hierarchy the one thing that comes to mind is the different groups of society. It is pretty much the order of things that whether it would be the pages of a book, politics, or other things that need to be kept in order. These things are helping with keeping order in the world by demonstrating the difference. For art it is the complexity of the amount of things that need to be done for a project to be considered as a piece that would appeal to the eyes of the one that is interested in the artwork. It is the different hierarchy and the randomness of them that would turn what was thought to be an imagination into an artwork that the artist would be proud to present.

6.1.3 Graphic Units of Measure

In the real world we know about the two different measuring systems that exists in this word. To this day we know them as the imperial measurement and the metric system of measurement. These measurements are the basics that any person should know when they are working on a digital art work. When working on a digital artwork there are a couple of terms that are used as a form of measurement that is not known in real life. They are the thing would help an artwork to look nice for the target audience of whom they want to see that would appeal to their sense of sight. To me graphic units are especially important when it comes to working on a digital art piece, because it helps with the organization of the piece and also helps with the sizing of it too.

3.3.3 Design Final: Mandala

3.3.3 Design Final: Mandala

I had a lot of fun with this project ever since I had started with the design and made it look like what thought it would look like from the concept drawing that I had created from the beginning. After the iteration I thought of the outline that I am definitely going to use and just started working on it right especially when it comes down to start coloring the artwork to the appropriate colors that I think were appropriate for each of the flowers that I had created. Which is why there is an outline that I could use the lines that I have created to shape up where colors could go but at the same time trying to have them work out between each other to somehow blend in some kind of way. The project in the end turned out very nicely initially I had a different color scheme I was thinking about using but then I changed it to a different scheme that looked a lot better with the shapes and the way the colors deal with the shapes makes it look like an artwork that could capture the eyes of viewers and other artists.

3.3.2 Design Iteration: Mandala

3.3.2 Design Iteration: Mandala

This project is an interesting one because it is a real challenge for me using a variety of different shapes to be able to make my concept come to life. The thing that I saw when it comes to doing this project it is important to know that we need to make it as best way that we can do for the project to become a true artwork. For my iteration when I saw my concept I tried to think about what kinds of shapes I could use and how I could create the flowers that I have drawn in my concept. Before I began to making the initial iteration I puzzled a lot on what kind of shapes I could use and what techniques I could do to manipulate the shapes to make them into the appropriate shapes that could make the images that I wanted to use for my project. In the end, what came out of making the shapes and also adding a few smaller graphics into it to make it look nicer. It may look more complicated but I think that these little images gives the picture a little more flare before the actual coloring.

5.1 Reference Reflections

5.1.1 Multiples

Making multiples of an image can prove to be challenging for people like us, but it is an effective way of working with any artwork. What I mean by that is the amount of multiples we make we can see what changes we could do for the picture or using the same picture in different ways. So using these different ways of I was able to determine the different artworks that I can do with these techniques. These aren’t just practical in artworks but also in everyday life, so meaning there are some practical uses.

5.1.2 Scale, Framing, Modularity

I haven’t done too much when it comes to picture editing but these terms helped me understand what kind of thing that these techniques I could be able to do. I knew that scaling was to edit the photos size just to make them either bigger or smaller depending on the type of artwork we are making for the audience to see. My understanding of modularity would involve with the amount of pixels that show up on the picture, so in general it just messes with the overall picture quality. Framing I had a hard time understanding, but I do know now that I it involves with the amount of white that is shown with the picture.

5.1.3 Need to Bleed

Bleeding is a term used due to the amount of color that is showing with the picture there. What I mean is if we look at a picture and the picture looks like it doesn’t have any extra white area then that means it is in full bleed, but the more the white and the more white that shows then the lesser the bleed. To plan for bleeding then we need to watch out for borders, partial bleeds, and other things.

2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

When I first started this project I thought I would be taking a lot of time to be able to complete this project, but considering what I had I was confident on what I was doing. This was a tricky project considering that I had to think about what the author was talking about when it came to drawing out each stanza. After creating the concept I kept thinking about different ways I could be able to complete this project. I did look at different example but in the end I came up with the idea of putting it together but still trying to stay in touch with the stanzas from the poem. I put the components together to make the project come life with the blackbird eye as the moon. Not only that the snow, wind, man and woman, trees, icicles, the blackbird, and other components. I enjoyed this project because it challenged me to a lot of concept thinking and pushed me to creating things that made it look like I was trying to take it out of a story book. One thing I would take away from doing this project is that we can think of things in a variety of ways, but in the end there is one way that we think would suit on what we could consider our art.

3.3.1 Design Concept: Mandala

3.3.1 Design Concept: Mandala

This project called the Mandala project is a project of expression in which we have to use our knowledge of geometrical shapes, color and meaning into this project. For this project this a real test of my artistic ability, but considering that this is just a concept this was an idea that had popped into my head. When I was thinking of the concept when it came to shapes, the one thing that I thought of flowers especially the unqiue color that they give off when I start using colors the sketch will look much better with the difference in color it shows a change from the primary color to a after a transition. My sketch is of a flower, the reason why I chose this is because I used to draw this a lot in the past and it has been a while since I have drawn this shape. When this project came around I did pander for a little bit but in the end I did choose to do this one because I want to draw it again and I wanted to see what it looked like added with a little bit of color with it.

4.1 Reference Reflections

4.1.1 Collage in Art

Collages are a thing that is a thing that could be explored because it is a unique piece of art that is made. Combining different kinds of objects and pictures altogether making a new kind of an image. There are famous art pieces that people are that creates this kind of art and it actually looks really nice when there are multiple different kinds of the pictures put together. The same thing goes for a montage except a montage is a series of photos that are put together to create a nice presentation like look.

4.1.2 Layers and Transparency

When it comes to creating an image or doing an edit to a current picture then there are a couple of techniques that can make a picture look better. The first thing to do is layering, what it is singled out pieces that are combined onto the picture to give it a more different look. That is what layering is, which is a feature that is really used on the program Photoshop which uses multiple layers that would make editing quite a breeze, and it is consider to make sure that it goes with every single detail. Also, transparency is a technique that was also used to make things look opaque and could give pictures a shade color difference.

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

The Blackbird is an interesting art work that is being created. It has to use a template but for me I chose to do something that is different from my concept drawing I wanted to see how it is combining my different concepts together to see how it turns out. When I first thought of the concept for this project I thought of what each stanza should look like with each concept trying to match along with the stanzas. Now this is just the beginning part of the project I am going to try to clean up the outside of it and add in the blackbird and mountain to keep with the concept. This project is a real mind twister because I are using letters to make this artwork come to life. I think that the project really test on how we can be able to utilize something that is different from what we were comfortable doing. This is because it tests my knowledge of how I could be able to do an artwork in a different way. The one thing that I definitely want to do is make this project look as best as it can and relate to the poem as well.
