2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

2.3.3 Design Final: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

When I first started this project I thought I would be taking a lot of time to be able to complete this project, but considering what I had I was confident on what I was doing. This was a tricky project considering that I had to think about what the author was talking about when it came to drawing out each stanza. After creating the concept I kept thinking about different ways I could be able to complete this project. I did look at different example but in the end I came up with the idea of putting it together but still trying to stay in touch with the stanzas from the poem. I put the components together to make the project come life with the blackbird eye as the moon. Not only that the snow, wind, man and woman, trees, icicles, the blackbird, and other components. I enjoyed this project because it challenged me to a lot of concept thinking and pushed me to creating things that made it look like I was trying to take it out of a story book. One thing I would take away from doing this project is that we can think of things in a variety of ways, but in the end there is one way that we think would suit on what we could consider our art.

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

2.3.2 Design Iteration: Blackbird

The Blackbird is an interesting art work that is being created. It has to use a template but for me I chose to do something that is different from my concept drawing I wanted to see how it is combining my different concepts together to see how it turns out. When I first thought of the concept for this project I thought of what each stanza should look like with each concept trying to match along with the stanzas. Now this is just the beginning part of the project I am going to try to clean up the outside of it and add in the blackbird and mountain to keep with the concept. This project is a real mind twister because I are using letters to make this artwork come to life. I think that the project really test on how we can be able to utilize something that is different from what we were comfortable doing. This is because it tests my knowledge of how I could be able to do an artwork in a different way. The one thing that I definitely want to do is make this project look as best as it can and relate to the poem as well.

2.3.1 Design Concept: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

2.3.1 Design Concept: Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird

Blackbird is visionary poem that catches the attention of the reader and the ways that they think of their interpretation of the piece. The piece was the main focus of this project, is the way that I envision this project would look like through my perspective. That is the challenging for this project. Looking at each stanza carefully and by my thought process what would be the more appropriate sketch that would suit the stanza well. The thing that is hard is imagining what it would look like on paper. Seeing it in your mind is easier when reading the poem, but when it came to drawing it that was tricky, but other than that once we imagine it. Once we imagine it then start drawing it then it becomes a lot better and the visions would start becoming easier to draw out on paper. This poem gives artists a way to see of their accuracy of their thinking when it comes to interpreting the message of each stanza of the poem. To the point they think of the main product that comes out from reading the piece throughly. Here is my sketches for the Blackbird poem:

2.2 Exercise Reflections

2.2.1 Gestalt Praxis

Hearing the word symmetry we would think about the basic that we have learned about in the past during grade school. With this article it gives us a more advanced course of what symmetry and asymmetry which proves to be helpful even for those who are artists. Symmetry has been proven helpful to those who are in art and the best art is create by using more than one technique that will make their art more appealing to the human eye. Good practice of this would be using squares and dots by toying with them aligning them making sure they were evenly spaced out. This way it can test the way you can find the center line of symmetry.

2.2.2 Grid Systems

Grids have proven useful to artists when it comes to keeping things straightened up in their artwork. To be able to use them properly the use of the guidelines and the rulers along the border of the sheet have been proven useful to make sure things are measured out properly. In digital art, these things are useful for the next shape or position that we want that item to be in for the project to look nice. This would also be useful for documents as well even when creating a cover page. Which can be useful and it shows that person is organized and wants things to be precise.

2.2.3 Drawing with Type

When it comes to working with different fonts it is important to know which one would suit your style, but that is the best thing about it because with different artworks there could be the one that would need the use of different fonts that should make use of fonts that will make an artwork look even nicer than the last one. Drawing with Type in general we are trying to make use of the negative space around us in order to create a complete visual image that uses different letters or numbers that are included with them. Much like this little project of my initials with a font and trying to make use of the limited space that I was provided.

2.1 Reference Reflections

2.1.1 …of Looking at…

There are many ways to look at the poem Blackbird judging from how the poem is structured there are thirteen way to see it from different perspectives. The purpose of this poem is to have artists like us to be able to give what their version of the stanza is from the poem. It is pretty much looking at the language of the poem and it evokes an image that the reader or artist are able to see. Artists have constantly looked at this poem for some inspiration of what they thought it would look like from the perspective that they were thinking. That is the true nature of the artist it is always the vision that they come up with and just create it.

2.1.2 2D Basics

2D art still involves a lot of terminology that is used to describe each technique. The only about that is the amount work that still needs to be done for a 2D art piece. The use of grids in order to arrange images and making a form to make itself as an active element in the whole process of the artwork being created. The shapes need to somehow create a correspondence that would give them the visual perception to the artwork that would make the right figure to bother background and the artwork itself. Along with with using a point to find the center of the artwork along with various lines to create planes that would create the artwork that appeals to the communities eyes.

2.1.3 Gestalt Theory

Gestalt’s theory deals with perceptions especially when it comes to viewing artworks that would perceive the human eye. According to Gestalt he thinks that there 4 principles of perception. They include emergencere, reification, multistability, and invariance, each of these have a certain function that would shape the perception from what it is originally supposed to look like. It would still be the same shape no matter how many times you twist it, flip it, or anything to fool it. That image will be forever stuck in your head but you have to think that how can I deceive the image. This theory in visual design has fooled many artists and people which is the beauty of it because they real test your mind and sight.
