The article named How to Save the Planet and Making Money Doing it by Bryan Walsh introduces us to Richard Sandor, a former economic professor at UC Berkeley, who turned his attention to air pollution problem and help companies make profits from reducing air pollutions successfully in his later years. Sandor created a cap-and-trade system for acid rain. His system not only put a government limit on how much every factory can emit, but also allow companies to trade their excessive pollutants. Then, he created Chicago Climate Exchange, which has more than 400 U.S. corporate members, traded $23 millions worth of carbon emissions. Overall, we can say that Richard Sandor put the theories of finance and marketing into environment protection secured fully and made it possible for many business and factories to make good profits protecting the earth. The unseperatable relationship between economic and environment protection is very obvious in this article. When relating this article with Get Rich and Save the Earth from Earth the Operator’s manual, it’s very clear that both authors of these two articles believe that there’s a solution for human beings to make profits in different industries while protecting the environment. Contents in these two articles clearly stated that there are people and companies that are using the resource from our planet to make money while doing an amazing job protecting the environment. The purpose of these two articles is not only to point out that it’s possible for human to earn money without harming the earth, but also to urge everyone to stop harming the environment for personal benefits.

From my own perspective, I believe it is necessary for human to understand the need to protect the planet. Even though it’s important for all business to make profits, business owners and politicians from all countries should use the resource from our planet wisely, without hurting the forever home of all human beings. Tesla is a very good example for business owners in the manufacturing industry to follow. When you look at the data of how much less air pollution you can cause by driving a Tesla, you will be proud of Tesla’s contribution to save the earth while still making good money as an enterprise. Car brands such as Porsche and Toyota are also doing the same thing to save the planet. I believe all car manufacturers should follow them to make contributions in a global scale.

    Hi Ziyun,

I think the ideas in the article are workable and amazing. The cap and trade system will guide the companies by producing without further or extreme pollution to nature. The CCX’s effort on acid rain market and the reduction of carbon emission are extraordinary. The prevention of further destruction of nature will expand worldwide as companies CCX so far has more than 400 corporation members, and soon will have worldwide members. The car production companies are the top companies that cause the carbon emission or the pollution in which I also believe they are inventing cars that based on new energy or green energy that also can sustain cars’horsepower. Great point on showing the effort of preserving nature. I believe the data graph will show a positive correlation in the future as more companies will join the cap and trade system.
