“ecuador love life”

“ecuador love life” is the slogan of the marketing advertisements for tourism that the ministry of tourism has being using for at least the last five years. When I lived in Ecuador I used to see many advertisements that aimed to bumper the tourism turnover. However, I always felt like that industry is not going to get better in economic terms, until a big amount of money is invested. The actual budget is barely enough to maintain the existent infrastructure and not to make improvements, thus Ecuador it is not seen like a top touristic stop among other countries.

TODAY, I was reading the ecuadorian online newspaper “El Comercio” and found an article that states; “Ecuador will increase its budget of tourism of 40 to 150 million dollars”. This new impacted me in a way that made me dream of a better country. What I can say about this is that it was about time that more interest have to be put in tourism. Many countries expenditure is funded by the inflow of money caused by tourism and this happens because their government is aware of keep investing in tourism .

From the balance of payments, the actual money that Ecuador receives from tourism is NOT such a large number compared to other countries located really close and with similar characteristics. Therefore, the strategy just taken to raise the budget of tourism by more than a hundred percent is very wise and I support it. The ecuadorian government strategy to reinforce tourism is based on security, not just from their citizens but in aspects such as health, food, shelter. Also the “touristic quality” that includes touristic capacitation and certification. The improvement of the destinies in terms of how the plan the supply of products and the homologation/approval of the facilities.

The minister Vinicio Alvarado pointed that the destined funds for infrastructure such as  highways, ports, airports and others fully surpass the direct investment in tourism. In conclusion, if tourism increases, many job opportunities will be created and those employees will have a greater power to purchase things that subsequently aids the economy to release a chain of economic progression (economic growth and development).

I think your interest in the personal growth of Ecuador is very patriotic. It is nice to see that someone our age is taking interest in the future. Your knowledge on this subject seems to be pretty in depth; are you thinking about being part of the Ecuadorian government when you are older? Anyways, keep it up and I can’t wait to hear what else comes up on this blog!

In order to invest, the government has a lot of opportunity costs among options and your concern is accurate but luckily some other programs from developing health and education will need of less money because they will be finished soon.

I agree. The way the government allocates the country’s funds definitely determines how well the country will do financially. I’m wondering what could have made the government respond so quickly to just so out of the blue decide to invest so much money into tourism. I am also wondering how this big increase in funding for tourism will affect the other investment sectors of the country that are important as well.
