Kill la Kill

Ok, I admit that this anime is quite weird, but I enjoyed binge-watching it in a day. That was something that I loved to do in the summer. I would go on the internet and search for some short anime to watch. Kill la Kill makes it on the list because of the sheer creativity. It emerged from Studio Trigger and had three volumes.

Plot

Now this anime is about a girl named Ryuko Matoi who is searching for her father’s killer. She has half of a scissor given to her that she uses as her weapon. She attends a high school called Honnouji Academy, whose students wear Goku uniforms (no, they are not from Goku) that were constructed with Life Fibers. Her scissor blade, conveniently, can cut through these uniforms. She eventually stumbles across a sentient sailor uniform that she names Senkestu. He is made entirely of Life Fibers and can transform her. One of her goals is to defeat the leader of the academy, Kiryuin.

More Powerful Goku Uniforms

Some uniforms are more powerful than others. The rankings are one-star, two-star, and three-star Goku uniforms. The more stars, the more powerful they are. Kiryuin has her Elite Four, who all wear three-star Goku uniforms.

Plot Twists

There are actually some major plot twists that occur in this anime. Spoiler alert, Kiryuin is Ryuko’s sister, not to mention that their mother is the CEO of the company that has a monopoly in the Life Fiber market. Ryuko actually gets brainwashed into fighting her sister. The Elite Four do not have their Goku suits anymore because Ryuko had already defeated and destroyed them. Their mother has a plan to destroy the earth and propagate Life Fibers throughout the universe.

Best Fighting Scenes

Some of my favorite fighting scenes include all of the battles between Ryuko and the Elite Four because this was the process that she had to go through to learn all of her new abilities. To think that such an ordinary high-school student would go from wielding a sharp piece of metal to having a magical uniform and being an expert in fighting enemies with Life Fibers. When she was fighting the marching band conductor Nonon Jakuzure, she has to learn how to fight while not being able to hear anything, not to mention that her Regalia suit can fly. This is where Senketsu evolves, and now he can apparently fly, as well. Eventually, she was able to have Senketsu only focus on the sound of her heartbeat so that he could concentrate.

Some Disclaimers

So there is a reason why this anime is so weird. This anime has an MA rating. Meaning that it is for adults. The whole anime has a LOT of partial nudity, and if you watch the anime, you will know what I mean. Life Fibers make up clothes, and when they get destroyed, so do the user’s clothes. If you are not fussy to that sort of thing, then you can actually appreciate what this anime has to offer.

Final Thoughts

I really did enjoy watching this anime, and I think that anyone who’s in their late teens and up can enjoy this anime as well. Just be prepared to close the Crunchyroll tab in case anyone walks in the room.
