TD Jakes Motivational Speech

TD Jakes is my favorite motivational speaker. He inspires millions to do what they dream of.

His Gestures

The first thing I want to talk about is his gestures. He is not standing still at a podium and speaking at a low volume. He is walking around the stage and looking the whole crows in the eye as he talks to them. His hands are always moving with his voice, so it seems as if he is talking to each individual in the audience. The volume of his voice is perfect, and it compliments his style. His job is being a preacher so he can talk to people regularly. He also takes pauses whenever he needs to so that he can get his points across more clearly.

His Organization

He carefully picked his words and topics so that they could build off of one another. He went from talking about how people were trying to fit into the crowds to weighing their opinions with God. He started small so that he could grab the attention of the audience. He talks about how it takes courage to be wealthy and wise. He begins with the facts and follows up with personal experience, ending with motivational preaching. He has a great sense of what he needs to bring to the speech at certain times.

His Persuasion

How does he make his speeches so real? He has probably been in the situations he talks about. He is not just preaching to them, though. He is giving them instructions on what to do to improve their quality of life. He asks them questions so that they can look into themselves and see what they are doing wrong. Not to mention that he is continuously motivating people and encouraging the people in the stadium already. He tells them that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. He mainly preaches at Metropolitan Baptist Church, so his ethos is already established.

What He Does Right and Wrong

He will keep on succeeding in the speaking business because of the points he gets across. The only thing that could be improved would be some of his stutterings, but that is because he does not read off of a script. I would rate his overall effectiveness a ten out of ten because his voice echoes in my head as I go through adversity, and I would expect the same out of the audience he preaches to. I hope to one day sit in his presence and listen to him speak.

My Thoughts on Debunked Research

In the article, “Studies Show That Studies Are Bunk,” Andy Kessler has an exciting take on showing that a lot of studies are not trustworthy. He addresses that the two most dangerous words are “studies show,” which automatically makes people believe that these things are real.

The Writer’s Opinions

The opinions held by the writer seem pretty authentic because he has obviously dealt with a number of these “studies.” People sometimes just use that phrase to make their made-up argument sound plausible. One of the things Andy says is that studies are “sciencey” with a sense of false authenticity. We do not even know where these studies are coming from. They may just be grad students in a lab doing random experiments to classify them as “studies.” The famous phrase “don’t believe everything you read on the internet” comes to mind.

In The Essay

These findings are going to be important in paradigm shift research because there needs to be credibility in the sources that are used. Articles from the actual companies referenced will be used. Not to mention that a lot of the things that will be talked about do not need any research since they are known facts. The creation of hardware and company wars actually happened. For example, no one needs to be told that Intel and AMD had CPU wars in the twentieth century. An essay that overviews the long process of getting eSports around the world is hard to argue against.

When presenting research in the essay, there will need to be some factual basis for what happened. If the information is not accurate and has to be presented from a perspective, there will need to be some extra authentication to make sure that it is being told from an objective perspective. For example, if an employee says that Nvidia definitely won the GPU wars in the late twentieth century, then that would have to be backed up by statistics from the company compared to AMD. Sources are already going to be cited, so the reader should have no problems with the credibility of the essay.

Who Has Credibility?

When researchers are going to be used for the essay, a variant of a background check should be applied. Where has this person gone to school? What kind of degree do they have? How many years have they worked in their field? After credibility has been established, then they can make their way into the “Works Cited” page of the essay. Anyone should take research on the internet with a grain of salt because, literally, anyone can post with fake credentials, leading others to believe otherwise.

The Evolution of E-Sports

My topic of discussion for the paradigm shift essay and TED talk will be the evolution of E-Sports. This topic is about how gaming has changed from a pointless hobby to a career with millions of dollars in prize money.

How This Story Should Be Told

This topic is too large in the present day to ignore. This deserves an explanation of how this all happened. From friends getting together at their houses to having LAN parties to significant tournaments, the E-Sports community has grown exponentially over about 45 years.

Where It All Started

People want to prove that they are the best at a game, so they challenge their friends to a friendly competitive game. However, there are stakes to be held. They said that the winner gets $20. Then they decide to hold a tournament with all of their friends with an entry fee and prize pool. The word gets around that there is a $1,000 tournament, and everyone wants the chance to win. Where do sponsors go to get advertised? At places where massive amounts of people gather. All of a sudden, people from all around the world are battling in teams for millions of dollars in prize money. Sponsors from major companies like Mountain Dew and every gaming company there is brought a lot of money to the games. Not only do the players want to succeed, but the fans want them to win, as well.

The Community

Once the word gets around that huge tournaments are being held with all of the best players around the world, people are going to want to watch in a massive arena. The arena owners now are making vast sums of money to hold these tournaments. The community grows around competitive play and brings attention to the games that are being played in competitions. Recent large games include Fortnite, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike who all hold multi-million dollar majors. This attracts the younger generation because they can make money by playing games that they enjoy.

Platforms

Most tournaments in E-Sports are on a computer, but other platforms like Xbox and PS4 exist for games like Call of Duty and its tournaments, which were widely popular in the early 2000s on consoles. I grew up with the generation of console gaming, eventually moving on to the computer platform. Even my father grew up with gaming when the atari came out, and he would play all of the best “Pong” players. Although we have very different backgrounds, my background had evolved from the growth of his.

Why Even Talk About This?

Who cares if you can make a little bit of cash from playing video games? It’s not just about that. It’s also about the technological advancement in CPU’s and GPU’s that gaming has forced. Everyone always wants the best graphics and internet speed, so they will pay top-dollar for those who can provide. It’s time to recognize the change in the way people have viewed the gaming community and open their eyes to the future of E-Sports.
