The Consortium for Digital Enterprises welcomes your interest in our activities. While this site has a lot of information on our several activities, we’d like to start by telling you a bit about our history first.
Our History
CODE involves faculty from five academic departments- Business Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Management Science & Information Systems (all at University Park campus), Business (Erie campus), and Engineering (Great Valley campus) was formed in summer 1998. In Spring 1999, Penn State joined the SAP University Alliance Program that currently includes 100 member colleges, universities and other groups in the academic community. The Unisys Corporation gave a gift of high-end servers to host the generous gift of SAP software in the University Park campus. It is configured for access from all Penn State campuses. In Fall 1999, the School of Information Sciences & Technology joined the Consortium for Digital Enterprises.
Our multi-disciplinary, multi-campus plan is ambitious. Our efforts over these past years have been spread across many areas including an innovative curriculum development program that will use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Supply Chain Management software to teach the fundamental concepts related to the engineering and management of Global Supply Chains and the use and of management of Enterprise Information Systems. This continuing effort has produced a multi-disciplinary set of courses that spans engineering, business and management information systems/technology programs at several Penn State Campuses. SAP R/3 and other ERP software will allow us to provide students hands-on experience with state-of-the-art information systems for decision making in complex environments involving vast amounts of information. We believe that these efforts are well aligned with Penn State’s strategic goals of enhancing academic excellence through greater support for high-quality teaching by deploying advanced information technology as a learning tool and enabling more partnerships with business and industry through these interdisciplinary efforts.
