About

photo of LizI now work as a Senior Statistician at Westat and this site may not be up-to-date.

I am an applied statistician who is excited by opportunities to make an impact. I earned a Statistics PhD from Penn State’s Statistics Department, where I was co-advised by Dr. Ephraim Hanks and Dr. Matthew Beckman. My graduate research projects related to animal movement and statistics education. As part of my animal movement research, I developed statistical models in a stochastic differential equation model framework to describe movement behavior ranging from foraging ants to migrating golden eagles. In my statistics education research, I developed a survey to assess students’ attitudes toward probability. I have been the independent instructor for seven semesters across three Penn State undergraduate courses: elementary probability, experimental methods, and introductory statistics. My interests outside of my research and teaching include podcasts, hiking, and spending time with my two rescue dogs. I grew up in Cape May County, New Jersey and earned by B.A. in Mathematics with a Statistics specialization from The College of New Jersey in 2017. My undergraduate research under Dr. Michael Ochs concerned structural equation modeling of cell signaling networks in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
