The EL RAVE program begins with a set of experiences called Think Like a Linguist. Students are guided to draw on their knowledge of multiple languages to analyze relationships between languages. Students learn about how all languages change over time and they consider examples of Old English to illustrate this concept. With this perspective that languages as dynamic and related systems, students are taught about Latin roots in the academic layer of English.
