Welcome classmates! I am beyond excited to begin my passion blog this semester. This blog is a guide to self-reflection, using simple everyday pop culture topics to discover one’s individuality. It is designed to help you think about what is important to you, what you value most in life, how you view yourself, and so much more! This week we will be focusing on a popular controversial topic everybody is familiar with, Zodiac Signs!
At some point in your life somebody has asked you “Hey, what’s your sign?” You either get annoyed or excited by this question. Everybody has their own opinion on if Zodiac Signs are “real” “fake” or simply not worth anyone’s time. Whether you support your sign completely and know every planet on your chart, or have no interest in nonsense about the stars, everybody has something to learn from their Zodiac Sign.
Humans are complex beings, we often attempt to understand ourselves and each other and fail miserably. No matter how you feel about Zodiac Signs, they provide a seemingly “foolproof” list of qualities based on the date, time, and place you were born. Nobody is confined to a chart or sign, but the descriptions they provide can help you evaluate yourself.
When I first read my Zodiac Sign, Aries, I was utterly disappointed. The stereotype depicts Aries as people with anger issues who can’t commit themselves and are extremely conceited. As I read further I learned that Aries is the sign of pioneers and adventure, and although Aries may be childish at times they are natural leaders. Of course, this description doesn’t describe everyone born within the month of April, but it resonated with me. As you read the description of your sign, you find yourself going “yes,” “no,” “I sort of see myself like that,” or “most definitely not.” No matter the case, you learn what is important to you and what you value in yourself.
Since I read about my Zodiac Sign, I realized how important I value adventure in my life. I constantly need to be engaged in strenuous mental and physical activity or I get bored very easily. I love to explore new places, anywhere from the power lines behind my house to a new country across the sea. I also see myself as a leader, becoming Student Council President of my high school and taking a leading role in group projects. Personally, I relate well to my Zodiac Sign and I am proud to call myself an Aries. This is not the case for everybody, and that’s ok! Perhaps you read your Zodiac Sign and thought to yourself “never in a million years” or “that could apply to anybody.” You would be right, it could apply to anybody. What you choose to apply to yourself is up to you, and by reading other Zodiac Signs and diving into your chart, maybe you’ll discover something important to yourself you never fully embraced or recognized.
I hope this blog helped you look deeper than the “reality” of Zodiac Signs, but rather how you use them to discover yourself!
Until next week 🙂
