After meeting with Brian on January 31, we visited the greenhouse again on February 9th. We helped Brian and George pick coffee beans off of the trees that they have in the greenhouse. You can see the coffee beans in the photo on the right. You can tell when they are ready to be picked by there color. You want them to be as red a possible.
Later, we help plant some Bok Choy in his Aquaponics system. You can see part of the system in the picture on the left. It was very difficult to plant them in the water. You had to make sure the root was supported by these circular clay pellets.
Overall, we all enjoyed this trip to the greenhouse and felt like we learned a lot about the care you need to make things grow.
That’s really cool how coffee beans need to be a bright red in order for them be ready, I had the idea they needed to be a darker color. It’s crazy to see the process that Bok Choy has to go through since it seems so delicate to plant. Nice photos!
That’s really interesting and shows how greenhouses can be educational. For my EACAP project, I had the opportunity to build a greenhouse. It will be interesting to see how it is used for education purposes as well as the betterment of the environment!
This looks really awesome. I love how hands on this is. I did bird watching but this would for sure be my second pick! Nice.
I love the greenhouse! Brian and George are both so knowledgeable and friendly. I hope you are enjoying your time with them as much as the Ninja Turtles are! Try the mini oranges – they are tasty.
