Today, Our team met with Laura Cordero who represents the City of Reading Sustainability and Waste. We discussed the importance of the public works department of the City of Reading and the work that it does to keep the City of Reading working and clean. We also discussed the work that our team will be involved in for cleaning up areas in the City. We plan to meet on set dates coordinating with other organizations in Reading to clean up litter and waste in different areas in the City. Some of the dates for clean-ups are March 16 which is the South of Penn Taskforce monthly neighborhood clean-ups in south of Penn Ave area in Reading, April 14 which is the Global Youth Service Day being a large clean-up effort at Reading’s City Park that is organized by VOiCEup and Youth Volunteer Corps of Reading, and April 27 being the Great American Clean-Up which are clean-ups happening at parks all over the city of Reading from 8am-1pm, organized by the City. In addition to the clean-up engagements, our team has been given different options to conduct research or other work such as interviewing people from some of the organizations who organize and participate in the clean-ups in Reading. The information we gather will be used to tie into work in the clean-up engagements. Our team is looking forward to participating in the clean-up engagements and working with some of the organizations that work hard to help keep the City of Reading clean.
