Water We Up To This Week?

Today, team members CJ, Kellen and Brooke met during class time to work on the research paper and organize our thoughts and ideas for the upcoming assignments and events. We spent the majority of class writing our individual portions of the research paper and it is finally coming together! During this time, we also talked about potential days that we will be doing our water testing and possible locations along the Schuylkill River that we will be able to access.

Our team is very excited for our event on Friday, November 9th at 7:00 PM in the Penn State Berks Luerssen Building. This event will include a streaming of the film “What Lies Upstream” followed by a panel discussion including yours truly, The Clean Stream Team. The other Sierra Club team, the Achievable Streams, will also be present. We will all be discussing our project findings so far. Everyone is invited and we hope to see you all there!

We hope everyone has a great week!

Here’s Whats Up (stream)

Clean Stream Team here,

After meeting with Darree from the Sierra Kittatany Club, we are ready to dive deep into our project. At the meeting she showed us the video, “What Lies Up Stream.” We discussed when and where we will be presenting the video and our projects to the public, which is NOVEMBER  9th, 2018 in the Luerssen building at 7 pm (tentative). Also, at the meeting, Darree and her assistant showed us a map of the Schuylkill River. Currently, our team is looking for farms, wastewater treatment plants, and other facilitates that could potentially contaminate the river. We are responsible to find these specific facilities from Reading, PA to the northern  Schuylkill area.

While leaving the meeting, our team discussed the action that we are going to take next. By Wednesday the 19th, we decided that we need to have found at least 6 (2 per person) facilities that we will research and look into . After the 19th we are going to really dig deep into the company and look at potential risks that the facility could have on the water quality. We plan on getting water reports from the companies themselves to help us find more potential risks.

We are very excited to get started on this project and look forward to testing what is in our local river!

Stay tuned for more updates!
