Working with Glenside Elementary School this semester has been a wonderful experience. It has been an honor to dedicate our time and help benefit the kids that attend the school. When we first met with Mrs. Fisher, she gave us the opportunity to tackle this project the best way we see fit. This allowed for us to get creative and truly make this project special for the kids. When we began to brainstorm ideas for the various plants and pot designs, we decided that we wanted to make them all very unique. All of us agreed that if each of us took the pots and created our own design, it would give the plants individuality. That being said, we wanted to give them something more than just the plants. We decided to create presidential fact cards that would be placed on the front of the pots. Each card features a past President who significantly helped the environment and who took a stand for being eco-friendly. On the reverse side of the cards are instructions for how to take care of the plant. The kids will be able to reference this each time they go to take care of the plants. By implementing this, we hope that the kids learn how to take care of these plants and use it later on in their lives.
Dropping the plants off at the school was a very cool moment for us as a group, we were very excited to let the kids see the plants they have been waiting for. Mrs. Fisher emailed us pictures of the kids holding their plants and it was just a humbling moment. Just seeing that what we created made another person so happy is why this project was so fulfilling. The kids now have made a board full of potential names for each of the plants and have been tending to them daily.
Overall, this project has been very fun to be a part of and we would like to thank Mrs. Fisher and the Glenside Elementary School for allowing us to work with them and be a part of this project. Teamwork is what helped this project prevail, as individuals we grew and developed more skills to help us succeed in whatever we do in the future. Throughout this project, we did not just create plants, we created new friendships and work that we are very proud of.
