Why should we make bee houses.

Bee populations here in the US and around the world are in decline. Climate change causes some flowers to bloom earlier or later than usual, leaving bees with fewer food sources at the start of the season. Bees suffer habitat loss from development, abandoned farms, and the lack of bee-friendly flowers. Some colonies collapse due to plants and seeds treated with neonicotinoid pesticides, or harmful parasites like mites.

Bees are very important because first, as pollinators, bees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They support the growth of trees, flowers, and other plants, which serve as food and shelter for creatures large and small. Bees contribute to complex, interconnected ecosystems that allow a diverse number of different species to co-exist.Bees are known for their elaborate hives, but they also help build homes for millions of other insects and animals. Their role as pollinators is vital in the growth of tropical forests, savannah woodlands, and temperate deciduous forests. Second, bees are known for their elaborate hives, but they also help build homes for millions of other insects and animals. Their role as pollinators is vital in the growth of tropical forests, savannah woodlands, and temperate deciduous forests. Many tree species, like willows and poplars, couldn’t grow without pollinators like bees. Also, bees produce honey to feed their colonies during the cold winter months. Last, to germinate, these plants require the transfer of pollen from the male part of the flower (the anther) to the female part (the stigma). As bees move from flower to flower in search of nectar, they leave behind grains of pollen on the sticky surface, allowing plants to grow and produce food.

Bees earn their reputation as busy workers by pollinating billions of plants each year, including millions of agricultural crops. In fact, pollinators like bees play a key role in one out of every three bites of food we eat. Without them, many plants we rely on for food would die off.

Final reflection about the EACAP project

Air polution is a forever topic for all the people.

  1. Many things we did before were polluting the air but we didn’t realize it
  2. Many pollution to the air are inevitable nowadays
  3. Air pollution can seriously affect human health
  4. Air impact will accelerate the Earth’s “aging”
  5. Air pollution is not easy to treat, so prevent it

During the research, we find these above points, and know more about air polution.

When we were making the beehouse, we found that nothing is that easy as you imagine, but if you really try, nothing is that difficult as well. And we really need to stop ruining the habitats for animals. We need to live together.

What We Did

Our group made one bee house and two butterflies houses that provide shelter for bees and butterflies to have a better ecosystem in the greenhouse.

Bee houses (or bee hotels) are similar to bird houses, but instead of attracting birds, they attract native solitary bee species. Unlike honey bees, these solitary bees are extremely docile and up to three times more effective as pollinators. No, you won’t get any honey, but you will enjoy better flowers, thriving plants, and healthier vegetables in an ecosystem!

how to create a balanced ecosystem at the yard

Some good insects like ladybugs devour bad insects like aphids (also known as greenflies). Attract the beneficial insects to your garden to help keep the bad ones at bay without the use of chemical pesticides. Simply grow the kinds of plants that the good insects find attractive, such as yarrow, Queen Anne’s lace, and marigolds.

Bee house

So for our ECAP project, we decided to make a bee house.

the reasons are:

· Bee houses offer security against vandalism and theft of hives.

· The hives are protected from the weather and therefore last longer.

· Bees appear to be more amenable to the beekeeper working with them especially during day light hours. However one beekeeper remarked to me “Have you seen what is going on outside the bee house while you are safe and secure inside?” In other words:’ if the bees become agitated their annoyance appears to be directed towards the area outside the bee house rather than inside.

· With a floor of compacted clay/sand mixture or concrete it is easy to control ants and termites.

· If portable as shown below right a prefabricated bee house can be taken down moved and re-erected on another site.
