Beautiful Day Final Post

Overall this project has been a great experience for all of us. We learned a lot about the research we conducted and about the service project we did as well. Through our research on Sea otters, we learned that sea otters are some amazing creatures that make a very positive impact on the environment. We learned about the issue: Sea otters as an endangered species. We learned about what causes them to become endangered. 1. Oil spills. 2. Shark attacks.  3. Humans.  4. More. We learned about the consequences of them being endangered: 1. Destruction of kelp forest. 2. loss of diversity of species. 3. How it affects humans. We learned about the possible solutions to the issue? 1. Reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever you can.  2. Dispose of hazardous wastes properly. 3. And more.  We also found some really cool news stories that highlighted this issue. As far as the service project, everybody did a great job of doing what we needed to do as a group to complete the service. The service project we did was a great overall experience for all of us to be able to create something great for the kids at Glenside elementary school, as well as hoping they have are able to learn something about the designs we created that highlight some of the things they have been learning about in class. This took a lot of time and effort to complete but we were able to get it done and are all very happy, not only that we were able to complete the service but also that we were able to give back to the community. In conclusion this was a great overall experience for all of us and we are so glad that we were able to participate in such a cool experience but also give back to the community.

Final Post for Service Action

Our group, Nature Lover (Jane, Skylar, Abby, and Riya) had chose to work with Glenside Elementary school for our service project. We decided to paint the ceiling tiles for kids with the science curriculum that each grade is learning. Those ceiling tiles will be placed above of their cafeteria, so they can all see them during the time when they are having lunch. These are our topic that we were assigned to do:

  • Kindergarten: Weather, plants, animals
  • First grade: Seasonal Patterns
  • Second grade: Earth’s surface
  • Third grade: Patterns of Motion
  • Fourth grade: Earth’s land forms and features
  • Fifth grade: Structure of matter.

We used the all kinds of brushes and colored paint for this project. First we made sketches for each of the topic. After that, we just started to paint on the ceiling tiles. Abby painted the structure of matter for third grade and the patterns of motion for fifth grade. Jane painted the Earth’s land form and feature for fourth graders. Riya did the weather, and Sky did the seasonal patterns. They took a lot longer than we thought to finish one ceiling tile. They all took each of us almost 4-5 hours to finish each of the ceiling tile, which means overall they took us more than 10 hours to finish all of them. However, we actually enjoyed painting them during the process of doing it. Whenever we thought about how the kids are going to look at them in the future for better education on this topic, we can’t be happier and willing to paint it well for them. Since we all love kids. After we finished painting, we were all so proud of ourselves and each other because we first thought it was kind of hard to finish all of them. Overall, we were all happy of being in this group and work with the elementary school. We get to know more about each other throughout the project. At the end, we all became good friends that will hangout sometimes during the lunch. We definitely think it is something worth it to do in BISC3! Therefore, we are all happy to have this opportunity and chance to try educate others and also gain more knowledge on environmental science.

These are some of our final painting:

Team Berks Bros Project Reflection

Overall, we all had a great experience with the project. We greatly enjoyed working with the school and helping the community.

Robert: The EACAP project was overall a positive, unique, and impactful experience for myself, and my teammates.

Michael: The EACAP project was overall a positive experience for me and this project made get closer with my group members.

Jayang: The EACAP project had a lot of challenges for us. We had a good time working on it.

Jacob: The EACAP project has been a great experience. I couldn’t thank my teammates enough for making this project go so smoothly. It’s been one of the best groups I have been a part of that communicated and worked well together, and I will definitely miss it.

The Earth Protectors – Final Post!

The Earth Protectors finally finish their mission in fall semester, 2017!

Throughout the semester, we researched on the topic of plastic pollution because we found that plastic pollution can relate to other areas of pollution, such as air pollution, ocean pollution and so on. The expansion of plastic pollution causes dramatic problems in our daily life. We feel that we should do some research and take our small steps to arouse people’s awareness on this issue. We want other people to understand the cause of the problem and realize that we should do something.

We had a tough and enjoyable time on doing the service project. Because of the weather condition, it’s extremely cold for us to work outside to paint the wall. And it takes us a lot of time on finishing even one bit of the service in great amount of time. We were thinking that the workers who need to do this job must be laborious. But we finished our service project eventually, we painted life cycle of butterfly on the way and hopefully that the kids will appreciate the picture and enjoy their learning on animals.

The experience of EACAP project is meaningful that we all learned profound knowledge through either the research or the service project. Environmental awareness gradually builds up in our mind and we are willing to take small steps on environment matters. We also want to call on you to join our team to protect our planet.  Also, because of the EACAP project, our team members become good friends and we learned a lot from each other.

Final Post

Our community awareness event was a sucess!  Our poster provided usful evidence about our project.  Our poster was about providing the Reading community with an easy route from the Reading Public Museum to the Schuylkill River.   Also, this project helped us build good friendships with our group.  This friendship transferred into a good teamworking environment which provided for collaboration.  We recommend that this EACAP project and all the other EACAP projects continue next semester and semesters thereafter.  Students can use what they learn in the classroom and utilize those concepts and skills into the real world rather than explain them on exams.

Overall experience and Project

The Glenside Villagers have completed our flower bed project and are now much more knowledgeable on the concepts of air pollution.

Overall we were very proud and pleased with our final product. Having to move around 80 plus cement cinder blocks and wheel over about 14 wheelbarrows of dirt defiantly was not any easy task, however, by using the cement cinder blocks will ensure that this project is long lasting. Also, another group could come along later and paint the cement cinder blocks in order to add some design and character to it. It was really great to see how our project and the other glenside group’s project came together. Now, when you look at the shed you see a beautiful design painted on the shed with our flower bed accenting the shed by wrapping around the entire surface.

Air pollution was a topic that most people are familiar with, but when going into greater detail, we were able to learn many new things about air pollution we didn’t previously no. One of the main topics about air pollution that no one in our group was aware of was indoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution completely makes sense when you think about why painters cover their mouth and nose when painting, or why you air out a room by opening door and windows after painting or cleaning. Indoor air pollution can be caused by everyday activities.

We found this project to be very informational as well as a fun hands on activity. It was a great way to develop new knowledge while helping the local environment. We will definitely be going back to see it all complete with flowers blooming in the spring!
