EACAP Wrap Up

Yesterday was our presentation in Gaige lobby. Everyone who visited really seemed to enjoy the projects and research done by all of the groups in the class! Tomorrow we will have our final in-class presentation- wish us luck!

We want to thank Rachel and Amy at Nolde for all of their help and guidance in this project and for what they do for the forest. This project taught us a lot overall; we learned valuable planning, communication, organization, and professional skills, as well as being able to educate the public on some important wildlife information. Specifically, working with children, who are literally the future, and being able to get them excited about nature is fantastic and makes you feel good about what you have done.

We encourage everyone to get involved with their local nature or wildlife organizations. You can volunteer or just pay a visit and learn about what they do and how you can help. This was a fantastic project for us to get involved with and we are so grateful l to have had the opportunity to do it.

Last Day at Nolde

Today was our team’s last day at the Nolde Forest State Park. The open house attracted a lot of people, because of the amount of activities being offered to the public. The open house went from 1:00 to 4:00 and we were inside of the mansion doing crafts with kids. Our craft was leaf rubbing, where you lay a leaf down under a piece of paper and color over it with a crayon. It was relatively simple and the kids really seemed to enjoy doing the craft and learning about the different types of trees in Pennsylvania. Along with our craft, Nolde also had Spanish dancers which entertained the crowd. Today ended out eight hours of service and we were happy with all we did for Nolde and the community.

Open House 10/1

Today was our first open house at Nolde! We were set up in the education center, making dragonfly crafts with kids. About fifteen kids showed up to make the craft with their families. In addition to the dragonflies, we gave away handouts about the life cycle of a dragonfly. The kids really enjoyed decorating and making their dragonflies. Our activity went hand in hand with a stream study the park was putting on with Ranger Amy, the educator of the day. At the stream they were able to spot several bug species, including dragonfly. We were also able to have some fun making our own dragonflies between sessions!

Get to “Nolde” Us

Lilliana Williams- is a sophomore at berks majoring in health policy and administration and minoring in business. She is in Lion Ambassadors, INK and Orientation Leaders, mainly contributing as a FYGL. She enjoys the outdoors and helping the environment in her spare time.

Casey Resneck- Is a sophomore at Penn State Berks majoring in Elementary Education. I am involved in PSEA at PSU.

Karissa Blimline- Is a junior at Penn State Berks majoring in Early Childhood Education.  I am involved in CSF and lead the girls bible study for CSF.

Zaria Funchess- is a sophomore at Penn State Berks majoring in Global Studies. One of the clubs I am in is the blue and white society. I also enjoy traveling and I have a love for animals.

Together we plan to using communication, creativity, teamwork and planning to achieve our goals and complete our Nolde project!

Today our team met with the Nolde Forest representative, Rachel. Together, we discussed the details of the Education Center service project, including, important dates, information about the park and what our role for the project is going to be. We all agreed that we will try to attend at least two the open houses and possibly split up to attend other events. Right now, we plan to conduct our research on Pennsylvania wildlife, and will continue to narrow down the subject, into a more specific topic.
