Final Post – Green Invaders (May 2, 2016)

This Project has taught us a lot about cleaning the environment and how communities such as Reading can benefit from a clean urban trail. By participating in this project we learned a lot on how local business illegally dump their waste on the trail. This service learning projected also gave us the opportunity to work side by side with other organizations who helped gave us an insight on the problems the trial brings to the community.  We are very pleased with the results of our service learning project and we hope that this continues throughout the years.

First day of Clean Up – Green Invaders (April 17, 2016)

On Friday April 15 we met Arden who was in charge of the clean up that day and met her at the  entrance of Baer Park. Once we arrived at Baer park entrance there were loads of trash along the entrance and the walkway was filled with plastic bottles, and broken glass and everyday house trash all throughout the trail. As we continued to clean up we discovered that the trail needs a lot of work done to it to make it safe and welcoming for the families and kids in the community. As we all know there is a lot of work that needs to be done to the trail but with the help of Penn State Berks, Reading community and various organization on April 23 from 8am to 1pm there will be a big clean up event that take place on the Schuylkill River Trail. We hope to see many students from Penn State there so we can help make Reading Beautiful again.

Green Invaders

We are the Green Invaders ! Our team consists of Charda Harvey, Hampton Allen and Rodney Babb. Last Semester Rodney worked closely with Dr. Grobman and together they partnered together to start the partnership work with the Schuylkill Trail and Penn State Berks. In the summer Charda run frequently on the Schuylkill river trail back in Philadelphia, with her knowledge of the Philadelphia trail she will bring her outdoor knowledge to the group to show what the trail needs so it can be one of the best urban trails in Pennsylvania. Hampton also runs on the Schuylkill river trail here in Reading, he will know what parts of the trail needs the most improvement.
