The First Step to Change, is to Educate. – Sustainably Green (May 2, 2016)

We walked into this class at the beginning of the semester completely unaware and oblivious to the issues that surround us today or have even surrounded us for centuries. We all cause damage even though we don’t mean to. We get caught up in ourselves and the everyday drama that we fail to acknowledge all the harm we cause on the environment. Sustainably Green’s focus was food waste and we were all disgusted and truly blown away by how overlooked this issue really is. We encourage you to take a couple minutes out of your busy day to learn about the damage that is caused by wasted food and hopefully you will be just as inspired as us to fight against food waste.

The Trail Blazers Final Post (May 2, 2016)

As a group, we all finished our hours cleaning up the trail. Sean and Noah attended The Great American Clean Up Event while Pat split off on his own. We presented on Tuesday, and it seemed to go pretty well. We were happy to get all of our information across to our peers, and give them an inside look on what we did for our project. Hopefully people learned a thing or two from us! We were happy to participate in the Environmental Awareness & Community Action Project and will continue to raise awareness on our own time as The Trail Blazers.

Final post – The Three Musketeers (May 1, 2016)

This project was fun and I think we all enjoyed doing it. We did the environmental map for the 5th graders from Glenside Elementary that came for Earth Day. We also went to the projects they were holding for the 5th graders. They made pots, painted what they seen as their environments and other fun activities. Over all this we a fun project and we all enjoyed it.

Final Reflection on EACAP – The Bee Team (May 1, 2016)

After working long hours with John Rost we have accomplished a lot and have come a far way. With the energy and motivation from all of our team members, we can all agree this was a very fun and useful project. We got to learn about all different types of flowers that attract bees and how vital bees are to the environment in order for pollination to occur. We learned a lot of information on Colony Collapse Disorder and how prevalent it is around the United States. All of our research was helpful to better understand the problems going on and how it is truly effecting the environment. We also learned a lot through our actual project and had a blast helping out John and we are very happy that our project was located on the Penn State campus so we can go back and see the progress that the garden has made. We learned that there are many obstacles when preforming projects like this. For example, the soil in the garden was very tough and there was a bunch of roots that got in the way while trying to plant our flowers. It made it very difficult to spread the flowers out like they should have been, so instead we just planted them closer together. It was really interesting to see our whole project from start to finish since we planted, fertilized, watered, and planted the seeds. Next year we are looking forward to coming back to school and seeing the progress that our pollination garden has made!

ECAP Project – The Rain Dancers (May 1, 2016)

ECAP Class Presentation

Doing this project was truly a lot of fun and we gained a lot of useful knowledge from it. We had a blast creating a brochure on rain barrels, a class presentation, a research paper, and a poster. This class really opened our minds on the environmental issues that are occurring in todays world.

ECAP Presentation

Thank you to everyone for coming to see our ECAP Presentation in class on Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed the cupcakes (: It was an amazing experience and we learned a lot along the way. After this project, I am going to work even harder to make this Earth a better place and dispose of any trash that I see lying around. Working with the students on Earth Day was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I loved showing them around our campus and spending most of the day with them. I really enjoyed learning about their life and hearing stories from their childhood. They were such amazing little people and it cemented my decision even more to become an Elementary School Teacher.

Closing post of The Green Lion (May 1, 2016)

We obtained a lot of practical knowledge due to this class and project which has defiantly helped us and made us more serious towards environmental problems. Throughout this project we made a video, distributed surveys, made presentations and a research paper. It was a lot of fun and we wish we have more projects like these in the future.

Final Post (Huanjing) May 1, 2016

As a group we all were able to get a lot out of the EACAP project, we were able to learn skills like working in a team, time management and how to organize a large task. We also learned a lot about the importance of rain barrels and the impact that they can have in a watershed and to a household, we also got a better understanding of hard water and what the problems that come with it are. As a group we are proud with the work that we did and are extreme proud of the rain barrels that we created and how it will impact the community as well as the environment. The PowerPoint that we created will give you a brief overview of the work that we did and what we learned while doing the project.
