A Force to Reckon with This Semester
I asked my team member what they gained this semester from the research and service project itself – Emma Peoples
“What I gained from this EACAP project was that every little bit counts no matter how small or big, it all adds up! This changed my perspective a complete 360 because I didn't know that all of these issues can be coming from us as individuals, but also that we can fix the issues. This was impactful to give to the kids who are less fortunate and for them to be able to have resources. This made me realize how fortunate we actually are and how we have resources at our fingertips daily.” – Lindsey Williams
“In my perspective learning about the bee decline was very informative. I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how big this problem is for the whole environment. I would say that our research project on bee declination allowed to see and analyze the problem and learn more about it. Our EACAP project was Glenside elementary used book drive, where we collect around 70 books for the student to allow them to improve their English and critical thinking.” – Kate Brovina
“When we first started, we were unsure on what our topic would be on. Then we finally decided to do bee decline. It was a topic that we have all heard about but was not deeply informed. Throughout this project, I have learned to allot of new things about bee decline and I also gained a social experience working with my group. When it came to bee decline, I learned lots of new information. For example, one unique fact I learned was that bees pollinate 90 different types of crops in just North America. I had a great experience working with Emma, Kate, and Lindsey. The social benefit I gained was learning how to work with others coordinatively. We all were assigned a part of the research paper, which we all completed. The part that I was assigned was the consequences. Throughout the process of this project, Emma played a major role and made sure everything was coordinative. For our community action, we collaborated with Glenside Elementary, a local school, to help donate used books. We set up book stations in the library, Dr. K’s office, and at our EarthFest station. Our goal was to gain 100 books to give to Glenside Elementary School. We reached 72% of this projection, gaining 72 books. Although we have not gained what we were originally wishing for, we were very proud of ourselves. This has helped me reconsider what I could possibly do with a lot of my old belongings. I believe everyone should reconsider what they do with their old things. Like that famous phrase “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” – Anthony Jenkins
Semester Conclusion: This was an amazing semester working with each other, Dr. K and Glenside Elementary. The four of us took this class not knowing what to expect and a somewhat decent understanding of the environment. Yet, a semester spent doing EACAP, group work, weekly discussions, videos, changed all of our lives. We are all so much more conscious of the impact we have locally and globally. It was amazing to hopefully change the children of Glenside’s educational future and make them feel even more secure in their reading. Also, we had a blast taking a step away from Glenside and educating ourselves about bee decline. You often head about save the bee’s but we all enjoyed looking into this on our own times and educating ourselves about a serious environmental issue. This semester has been informative and fun, thank you, everyone, for keeping up with Forces of Nature, until next time.
Books Collected!
Here is a list of the Books received over the semester! Our goal was hopefully around 100 books in total but we did reach somewhat close to that! We still have an impending pick up from Dr. K’s office and hopefully, that will push us closer to our goal! There is a nice variety of books and I’m sure the kids will be happy to have these new additions!

Getting Creative!

Change of Plan!
Forces of Nature decided to change our flyers and create a call to action letter! We typed out a description of our project and then drop the letters in faculty mailboxes across camps! Hopefully, some of you have seen them around campus yourselves!
Post Break Get Together
March 14, 2019
The Forces of Nature Decided to grab some snacks from Tully’s and get to work. First, we divided our research project on Bee Decline amongst each other. This was fairly easy. Our service project is going well, we have broadcasted it onto campus with flyers yet we have not gotten many donations.
Spread the Word!
First Meeting with Organization
On February 15th, our group met with Ms. Fisher from Glenside Elementary for or science book collection. We decided to have used book collection around campus to increase the materials for their school library. We will be making a flyer and creating boxes to hopefully increase donations, while also reaching out to personal resources for donations.
