A Long Day Weeding, Makes a Big Difference

On Thursday the 18th we got to enjoy another day at Glenside Elementary School. Since we already had raked up all of the leaves it was time for us to move on to the less fun part of the job, pulling weeds. We ended up pulling out enough weeds to fill about 5 large trash bags. Once we had finished with the garden we cleaned up some of the little garden boxes around campus by removing leaves and weeds from them. The best part was that the garden was in full bloom and beautiful this time that we came so we really got to enjoy our time spent there.

Roses are red, violets are blue, our board is cool and yours are too.

On Thursday 4/18 we got to enjoy time sharing what we were doing for our Environmental Awareness & Community Action Project. We had a fun time getting to share our project with everyone, and even got to give out some flowers. The best part of the day by far was that we got to see what everyone else was doing for their EACAP projects. It is nice to see how much of an impact we can make with just a few classes worth of students.

Glenside garden gets greener!

Our project finally got up and running this week on 4/11!!!

Nadine, Alex and John started to clean up the Glenside garden on Thursday. We ended up putting in about 4 hours to mainly just clean up the leaves around the garden. We ended up with about 20 bags of leaves (and some trash). Most of the leaves had blown against the fence and were taking up lots of space for plants and just for aesthetics. Next on the agenda is pulling all of the weeds in the main garden and cleaning up some of the little garden boxes around the campus. We are looking forward to making more progress and helping Glenside out even more. We had lots of fun on the 11th and can’t wait for next Thursday.

Whaling the Seven Seas on 3/14

Today, all three of us met up in the library to discuss how we are all progressing along in our research. We hashed out the rest of the organizational structure of our paper and developed some very good online resources for it. Alex focused on the consequences and solutions, and Nadine focused on the overall summary of the issue. While they did that John researched the causes of whaling. As a group we learned a lot about the industry that was whaling and the terrible impact of it, while also learning how well we work together. When whaling was a massive commercial enterprise hundreds of years ago they would harvest every last bit of the whale for use. We also discussed our meeting that we are having on 3/18 with Mrs. Fisher at Glenside. We are excited to finally begin our project with Mrs. Fisher and impact the environment and Glenside.

Welcome to the Seedlings

Greetings from The Seedlings.

Our team liaison, Nadine Grace Sun, is a freshman student at Penn State Berks. She likes traveling the world. Alex Mohammad Khaldaoui is the heart and soul of the seedlings. He is a business major here at Berks. Alex enjoys playing soccer and showcasing his disgusting skills. John Hoffman is an international business major at Penn State Berks. He enjoys drinking Starbucks and watching Netflix for may hours in a row. We will be working with Glenside Elementary School to plant seedlings at their school. We are looking forward to help alleviate the devastating effects that deforestation in the world has caused.
